rosacea & acne vulgaris readers emails

I just wanted to write and let you know how much you have helped me with
my rosacea,
Firstly you internet site is absolulety brilliant and it gave me a lot of
help
just by reading it. I have now been using the products you supplied for
1 week
and already I am seeing an improvement like I have never seen before,The
change is
fantastic, The document you send out regarding triggers has also been very
usefull
and has helped my pinpioint a few I wouldn't have thought about before. My
rosacea
hasn't gone completely but its only been a week and already I am happy
with the
results, the most effective product which I got from you is the body and
hair wash,
This has helped me realise that normal shower gel is one of my major
triggers.

I cannot begin to say how much I appriciate the effect that you have put
into
helping others, I'm sure you have made a difference to a great number of
people and
I would recommending you site to anyone with similar problems.

If you wish I will keep you updated as to how I am doing over the next
couple of
weeks

Thanks again

i came across your site and have been suffering from rosacea for years. i
was never really diagnosed with it though until it broke out in lots of ugly
bumps all over my chin. i had them for approximately 6 months and whatever
the doctors tried (and they tried everything)...didn't seem to work. they
basically finally gave up. i heard from someone that Aloe Vera works, so i
decided to give it a try. i took it orally and broke open the little
capsules and put them directly on my skin. today, my skin is so much better
and i'm positive its because of the Aloe Vera. i came across your site again
today and realized that everyone is talking about Aloe Vera (wish i would
have known sooner). so thanks for your site, i will continue to read it and
use the Aloe Vera.
:)

Hi Lonette excellent news and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know - you can be sure I shall pass your info on!

Hi

Just wanted to thank you sincerely. The products arrived on Wednesday and already (today is Saturday) I can see a huge difference in my complexion. Thank you so much. I'm also following your advice - particularly drinking lots of water, no alcohol, the Lion, etc.

You're a life- saver!!

Regards Bev

Thank you so much for letting me know Bev and guess what? your going straight on the home page hehe. It really is tremendously uplifting to receive emails like yours.

Having read articles in your web site for a few months, I must tell you that after suffering many years with acne vulgaris-rosacea I have solved my problem.

I have tried so many different things, from cutting out many foods, alcohol, spicy foods, using creams, etc....However I recently stopped putting anything on my hair, no mousse, hairspray, gel, and washing my hair everyday with baby shampoo(no perfume). I have had no skin problems now for three months, and I feel so much better. My hair looks terrible, but I dont care.

Hi thank you for writing - ah so you'll have seen the shampoo on the site? I have always known that one trigger can be the difference between success and failure in the control of rosacea sufferers symptoms and I have been using a mild shampoo for a couple of years now but it only recently occured to me to put the info on the site doh! Why not try my shampoo what hair I've got left looks ok lol hehe and the ingredients are very similar to the excellent moisturiser and mild cleanser.

Hi. Iam a 33 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with rosacea and have found your website. My doctor happens to be a specialist in rosacea which is helpful of course and hae has said that it can burn itself out in time. Is this true? So many of your mails state that the sufferer has had the condition for a lot longer than that and that worries me. Can it be caught early as I have been and will treatments therefore progress quicker?

Thanks

Judith

Hi Judith

A rather unfortunate turn of phrase "burn itself out" I take it your Doctor hasn't got it? Spontaneous remission is always a possibility but for most it is an ongoing chronic condition characterised by periods or flareups and remission. Early treatment is helpful but it is never to late to start treatment. I hope you have success with my products but of course there is no guarantee (no treatment works for all). Try and follow the advice in the sheets with the order for your best chance of controlling the symptoms.

Hi webmaster,
My name is Laura and I am a 22 year old Canadian. I
learned about rosacea about a year ago and was certain
that I had it. I went to the dermatologist and he
told me that it wasn't rosacea. I basically have a
problem with flushing on my cheeks and under my chin
with no pimples or anything else. I tried Metrogel
just to see but no change at all. I've been suffering
with this for about 10 years and it seems to be
getting worse especially since I've had to bike to
school everyday in the heat and cold. The main
trigger for me is being in a hot location. Air
conditioning is my best friend. I love playing sports
but I dread the summers because any activity in heat
makes me totally flushed. I know people notice and
some even comment that I look really sunburnt at
times. I just wish that I could do a heavy workout at
the gym and not be embarrassed to be seen. I'm going
to try and use the Aloe-Vera gel. I have some at home
but never in a million years have thought it might
help with redness on my face. If there is anything
else you can tell me I would be very grateful. In the
mean time I'll check out you site and hope for the
best.
Thanks again

Sincerely:

Laura
P.S feel free to keep my email address on file.

Hi Laura give it a try although I have tested many and only found two
suitable manufacturers aloe99 and now AloePura 99.9%. All the others I
tried had irritants in. Also the moisturiser and wash I have is proving
rather popular. Below is the info I send with orders it should be of
help to you.

i m 30yrs old and have been suffering frm acne vulgaris prob for the past 3 mths.no doubt i have been undergoing a lot work and family stress but my acne vulgaris prob has been made me even more stressful.

i hv been using nouveux visages, clarins blemish control, netrogena acne vulgaris spot and also an acne vulgaris solution prescibed the doctor.my acne vulgaris is under control now yet there is one or two pops out now and thenand its only the cheek area.the sad thing is, it has puss in it,grows a little big and always leaves a scar.i am also under antibiotics for past 2 weeks.

i very badly need a solution for my scar because its very thick and takes a very very long time to fade away.

i have been doing alot of exercising lately just to sweat out, hoping it wld help

i have lost my confidence and have been isolating myself.lost weight and feeling very very stressed out.

Pls advice me on the below issues: -

Q1 - will yr products increase the acne vulgaris status and then start curing it(cause my current product worked that way and thats the reason for the scars)

Q2 - will it be suitable for oily skin

Q3 - will there be puss in the new acne vulgariss that pops out

Q4 - how soon can i expect the result

Q5 - is it available in Malaysia

Thanking you.

Hi thank you for writing. I consider my products to be mainly successful for the symptomatic relief of rosacea - I only recommend them as a basic skin care routine for acne vulgaris Vulgaris when used in conjunction with prescribed acne vulgaris medication. My products may help alleviate some of the side effects of acne vulgaris medication such as redness, dryness and flakiness. You are doing the correct thing by seeing your Doctor ask him/her about a treatment cream called Isotrexin for acne vulgaris Vulgaris, it is a combination of Isotretinoin and Erythromycin - initially your skin may look worse as the matter is pushed up and out of the spots you can see and those you cannot see yet! but then you should see good improvement. If you wish to purchase my products in Malaysia let me know and I'll give you a price (although if you can pay in US dollars the price is the same as the United States). Another thing is as you are now 30 and just developing acne vulgaris Vulgaris have you or your Doctor considered it may be rosacea? or if it is acne vulgaris Vulgaris and you haven't had it before it is likely something may be causing it that may show up on tests have a look at the acne vulgaris treatments page at www.acne vulgaris-rosacea.co.uk and ask your Doctor about tests and polycystic ovarian disease (PCO), and check your environment, new medication or new make up etc as a cause.

I'm a 29 yr old rosacea sufferer and am wondering if you have any information or could put me in touch with anyone who has tried a candida diet. I've been told that a treatment of candida can gt rid of rosacea but so far 3months and a lot of weight later I have yet to see an improvement. I'm loth to use antibiotics and will try aloe vera but having scanned your site I haven't seen candida written anywhere. Also there is talk of it being connected to polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, or similar and whilst I have no problems I wondered if you had had correspondance from anyone with these conditions. Thanks for your help and for the site; it's good to know other people are out there feeling miserable too!

Hi Ursula

hehe well maybe not as miserable as before anyway. Candida hasn't been mentioned much no but we'll see if any other readers consider it linked. I got your order in today and it's in the post to you - good luck with it, I sincerely hope you have the same response as other successes.

dear peter, it's funny that you should mention niacin. i was using an oil of olay moisturizer with vitaniacin in it. i think that that was what my face was reacting to. robin

Interesting Robin I shall pass that on. I wonder if anyone else finds the same.

Has anyone any experience of a DermaLux AV light therapy machine? Do you know if it works for acne vulgaris and if it's safe. I found a website selling this - www.dermalux.co.uk but would like some advice as it's expensive at about £200. Thanks - have tried just about everything else and acne vulgaris still persists.

We will see if anyone can offer any first hand experience. You may wish to contact the ASG address on my links page - they did the study on the lights I think as I remember they found them to be ok. Have your tried combination treatments of Topical Isotretinoin and Erythromycin (Isotrexin) or other oral antibiotics, clindamycin etc.

Thank you for the update on rosacea. I am finding that Metrogel is
helping me. Just thought I would pass this on.

Hi Roberta
I'm delighted you are having success with your Metrogel and I shall
certainly pass that on.

Dear webmaster:
Do you by any chance have an order form that could be used by those of us who
would like to order your product?
Thank you.

Pat

Hi Pat

funny you should say that, an IT student contacted me a couple of days ago and I asked him if he could set one up for me. I wanted to put one on the site from the start that would add everything up but I don't know how to program it! doh!

Hi

I was reading your informative web page on acne vulgaris/rosacea both of which I
suffer from.

I am 32 years of age and I am taking monodox (aka Doxycycline) orally and I
use Metro Cream (aka metronidazole cream) topically. My skin has improved
but I it could always be alot better too !

I am interested in the Aloe Vera products. Would I continue using monodox
with Aloe Vera products and stop the Metro Cream ? I am not sure what others are
doing.

I also saw while in Europe that Vasculite Laser treatment is now being
offered for rosacea. Have you heard of this and is this successful ?

By the way, I did take several courses of Accutane (Isotretinoin) and I
ended upwith highly eleveated Triglycerides which I will have for the rest of my
life. I now have to take lipid lowering medication daily for that.

Any advice you can give would be much appreciated as I am never that sure
that Dermatologists really pay that much attention.

Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim I don't know of any reason not to continue your oral antibiotics
while you use Aloe Vera but of course as it is prescribed medication you
would need to discuss this with your Doctor. I stopped metronidazole
topical gel months ago and find the Aloe Vera products far superior I don't
take or use any prescribed medication just the Aloe Vera products and
trigger avoidance, many find the same but of course some do not, and some
benefit from metronidazole anyway there are no guarantees with any
treatment. We'll see if we can get some response to your question about
laser treatment when your email is posted to the site. For acne vulgaris-vulgaris
sufferers it is essential to have prescribed medication alongside the skin
care regimen.

Hi,

I am taking Multivitamins (1 a day) which include the daily recommended dose
of Niacin.

Is this likely to worsen the rosacea ?

If so would it better to take the vitamins before going to sleep ?

Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim
I'm not a medical professional and so I can only talk about my experience.
I used to take a multi Vitamin and many other supplements and dietary
changes to try and help my symptoms it took me two years to figure out
myself that it was niacin in the multivitamin tablets and in cereals with
added niacin that was a major trigger for me. I would not take a
multivitamin with Niacin in for any money - there is no difference as far as
I am aware of what time of day you take them. My advice is discuss with
your Doctor about stopping them or get one with Nicotinamide or Niacinamide
in - I can supply you with a suitable multivitamin if you wish - I just
found one last week! and now sell it from the site and take it myself.

webmaster,

Thanks for the instructions and the advice. I do try and follow a lot of
it and will try out some of the new stuff. It was dispiriting to read about
paint fumes because I know this from experience. I am an artist and have
to use paint thinner which I eventually react to. I have tried various
barrier creams to little avail so maybe should focus on testing a physical barrier
of some kind. Things are not meant to be easy. Still, Rembrandt is thought
to have had rosacea. I also wondered if you know anyone who has tried the
new pulse light lasers as they seem to offer incredible benefits.

Thanks

james

Hi James of course there are commercial masks on the market I have a
respirator type one for decorating work (not exactly art lol) - then you end
up with a dirty great big red ring round your face just when I have to go
and pick the kid up from school lol - as you say nothing's easy. I haven't
had any positive feedback about light therapies that I can think of - and I
imagine that the treatments will need repeated at intervals. The fact I
haven't got any feedback doesn't mean anything though the subject is brought
up infrequently probably because of the cost. Good old Rembrandt, always
did like his stuff. I'll put your email on the next page and we'll see if
anyone has info on light therapies for us.

I have had "diagnosed" roscea now for 3 years! The dermo I saw 3 years ago prescribed Metro cream which was not effective at all so I put it away in the drawer and forgot about it. At the time of the first visit I also had a mild case of poison ivy and the dermo prescribed a cortizone cream which I also tucked away in a bathroom drawer once the condition improved. To make a long story short I had the most intense roscea flair up about 2 months and searched the drawers in desparation. I found the cream started using it and like a miracle it cleared up dramatically! I spent about 3 weeks telling my family and freinds the metrocream was really working this time only to discover it was the cortisone cream!!!!!! I looked it up in the PDR ( physician's desk reference) only to discover that cream was specifically not for use in treating roscea!!! Despite the warning I continued for a month or so using less and using it less often but it didn't keep working miracle so I only used it sporadically! My face over the past two weeks has been out of control to the point now where I am very self conscious and wonder if it will ever go away! I do have an appointment with a dermo on May 8th and am going to request "very aggressive" treatment! I wondered about drinking lots of water and was excitied to read that helped someone's condition to a degree. Outside of the water... are there any specific vitamens proven to have a positive impact on improving overall skin health? Also, what specific antibiotics are most effective in treating roscea?? I will be discussing laser treatment to irradicate the broken blood vessels as much as possible but I wonder if any treatments such as a chemical peel, dermabrasion etc... would improve the smoothness of my skin?? or exacurbate (sp) the condition! I know there are a number of factors in my life style which contribute to worsening the condition... I run, work out, still blush like a fool @44!, drink coffee, some alcohol and love Mexican food and being outdoors during the summer! These are all things the original dermotalogist's pamphlet outlined as contributing to roscea but I can't bear to omit any of them from my life style!!! So, one final question... is this condition caused by a bacteria??? Or is it more a combination of causes of which bacteria may be one??? I feel better having found your sight and sharing my experiences! I look forward to your reply and reading more emails from other roscea sufferers! Carol in MI.

Hi Carol thank you very much for writing. I know how difficult it is to read a website on a dial up connection thank goodness I got adsl last week but if you can have a good read of the site, rosacea page, rosacea treatments page and the readers emails you will find all the answers to your questions there good luck - it would take me hours to answer all the points you make otherwise! And I’ve already spent months ahead of you putting the answers on the site!

I went to see a well reputed cosmetic surgeon yesterday re the redness, threadveins and pustules on my throat and upper chest and she diagnosed rosacea. Reading your information it doesn't indicate whether this condition affects this area as well so I am a little confused. I want to order the products you advertise as I'm desperate to do something about this condition. Have you heard of the condition affecting this area and will these products work for me too. I look forward to your reply.

Desperate!

Melanie

Hi Melanie very interesting. I have answered some other emails last year repeating that although the most common areas that rosacea effects are the prominent parts of the face that I had read that it may affect other parts of the body and of course the upper chest and throat are quite capable of flushing so I must commend your Dermatologist. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that the products will work for you, they don't work for everyone no treatment for anything does, we are all different with slightly different body chemistries but if you can afford to take a chance I sincerely do hope you find the same kind of benefit as myself and many others have.

I have just visited your website. I have been told by
a dermatologist here in Ireland that I have acne vulgaris
rosacea, but he gave me little information other than
that. I then began to read up on you website and I
have so many questions:-
(1) My skin is burning and very itchy at times. Is
that normal? ******* yes a normal symptom
(2) My eyes are burning and watery. Is ths another
symptom? ******yes again common you may want to ask your doctor about
loteprednol eye drops.
(3) My skin is tight on my face ***yes that's why I have a good
moisturiser as part of my skin care regimen.
(4) We once rented a house and the man that owned the
house before us had red itchy skin. Is it possible
that I picked up someting while in the house and that
it is another condition altogether and where would |I
look for information on this. ****** rosacea and most other skin
conditions are not in any way shaper or form contageous, but it is possible
that you may have another condition such as a fungal infection that both you
and the other gentleman picked up from the house. Your Doctor should carry
out tests to determine this.

Please help me as I am getting very depressed with
this condition.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Subject: your site is absolutely terrific!

Hello, I found your web site through yahoo and I was so relieved to read the other emails that I almost cried. I am a 27 yr old female and I have been unknowingly experiencing the symptoms of rosecea for about 5 yrs. I always have red cheeks (even when I try to cover up with makeup). My friends always ask me why I'm blushing all the time. I've even had a stranger ask me where I got such a sunburn/tan. It was because I was having a hot flash and I was so embarrassed that I turned even more red. These hot flashes would always happen when I was meeting new people or going out somewhere or if I was embarrassed about something. I was so upset with myself that before I would go out somewhere I would tell myself to be calm and be cool and maybe it won't happen. I almost considered seeing a psychiatrist because I thought I had some type of social disorder that prevented me from being in the public. I feel so bad that I will not even go to the grocery store if I am not wearing makeup. I also noticed that at times I am so sensitive to water that I can't wash my face because it burns. I thought there was something wrong with our tap water so I would boil water first to rid it of bacteria and then let it cool just to wash my face. (Isn't that crazy!) Even sweating sometimes burns. Recently I have been getting really bad acne vulgaris on my cheeks and forehead and also my jawbone. I was so itchy I started using a cortisone cream. It got to the point that I had to see a dermatologist. He told me I have adult acne vulgaris and rosecea and asked if I blush or have hot flashes. I couldn't believe it. I had seen advertisements on TV about rosecea and couldn't believe I had it. It all made sense now. I don't drink any type of alcohol because my whole face turns red and hot. Now I know why. I'm so glad to know I am not alone. Anyway, the doctor prescribed Desowen 5% to replace the cortisone cream I was using, also Noritate cream 1% to hopefully help the redness, and Erythromycin pills twice a day (for the acne vulgaris) to fight infection. I just started this regimen today and I am praying this will help me. I am taking your advise that you wrote to Janita regarding the different drugs to help fight the hot flashes. I am going to ask my doctor about them. Hang in there everyone, You are not alone. I wish more people knew about this website. If anyone has tried any of the above medications- have they helped you?

Also, I understand that blushing and hot flashes are a symptom of rosecea but why? What causes it? My doctor said it is hormones. Is this true?

Keep up the fight- Doreen, USA

Hi Doreen thank you very much for your brilliant email - I am so pleased you have gained so much from the site. It is such a relief to know you are not crazy and that the emotional impact of the physical symptoms you are experiencing are a perfectly normal reaction shared by millions of others. Give Clonidine a try for the flushing and perhaps a beta-blocker for panic attacks. See if your topical medication helps and consider the Aloe Vera regimen it works well for many but as with all treatments not for all - check with your Doctor if you can use it in conjunction with your prescribed medication. Funny thing about Janita the next email I received from her was incredibly abusive, I think she may have some er issues! enough said, but an example of why I have a PO box and do not use my home address to protect my family (for those who ask). As more of the mechanisms of rosacea are explored the closer we will be to more effective prescribed medications, hormones are certainly an influencing factor.

The info below should benefit you whether you use your prescribed medication or decide to give my Aloe Vera products a try.

Re:previous email on ETS. My nerves were severed! I do have very dry, warm hands (makes things like
cardboard boxes, paper etc. a little tricky to handle). I also do sweat
around the midriff quite a bit when I am doing heavy work (digging the
garden
etc.) but nothing too uncomfortable. In fact for me this is far
preferable
to the sweating on my face that I used to have. That's about it.
I had my operation undertaken at the London Bridge Hospital but I can't at
the moment find the surgeons name. I actually found the consultant via an
article in the Daily Mail. I will forward as soon as I can. What I will
say
is that I couldn't imagine a nicer, more professional guy. I was VERY
sore
after the op and as I recall it took me around 30 minutes to get out of
bed,
go to the toilet and get back in bed again in the middle of the night. I
was
too embarrassed to call the nurse so my fault really. I went home the
next
day and the car trip from London to Norwich (approx 3.5 hours) was not
good,
even taking into consideration my wife's driving. I was laid up in bed
for a
further 2 days but after that I was fine, a bit sore but perfectly mobile.
I now have some damage to my veins due to the steroids I took in the past
for
my rosacea and I still do suffer from some facial reddening although this
is
totally separate from the blushing I used to get. My reddening is now
triggered by exposure to cold wind or very warm centrally heated rooms etc
but I NEVER blush. I am exploring the possibility of Photoderm to finally
'finish the job' so to speak and get absolutely back to the normal me of
10
years ago

regards
Karl

Excellent Karl thank you for that. I think you point out something I
suspected, that you have solved one of the symptoms and aggravating triggers
of rosacea "the Blushing" but you still suffer from the flushing from other
triggers so again ETS may be another weapon in the armoury but no simple
answer (as nothing ever is in life). If you try Photoderm let me know how
you get on - I believe the treatments will have to be repeated over time
however and are expensive. For any thread veins you may wish to consider
laser treatment.

Hi my name is Ruth and I have been diagnosed with acne vulgaris-rosacea recently.
I think I have had it for years and umpteen doctors have said its excema
or sebhorroeic dermatitis. Consequently I have been prescribed loads of
cortisone creams which have made the problem worse and has now left me
with
some permanent damage. I stumbled across your site by accident when
surfing
the net for info in shear desperation. Believe it or not I just sat here
crying and reading all the e-mails of people describing all the symptons I
have been suffering. I have sent an order for your Aloe Vera products and
you should receive it by tomorrow.
I shall let you know how I get on. Like most sufferers I have been given
Metrotop gel to use which has helped to an extent but the dryness it
causes
is impossible to live with. Two things I have found helpful
are Lavender Oil in a carrier of Almond Oil. Very soothing. Also
drinking
plenty of water to keep your skin well hydrated.

Heres hoping!!!
Kind regards
Ruth

Hi Ruth
great to hear off you. I can't add anything to your email, you say it all.
I hope to god you have the same success as I and many others are having.
But remember this is no "miracle cure" for those it helps it is a weapon in
their armoury for the battle against rosacea. You will need to follow the
advice with the order and avoid trigger factors. I'm here to chat anytime.

Hi,

I am a 44 year old Dutch male and have suffered from rosacea for four years now. I' d like to get control of it. Can you help me? How do I order the Aloe Vera, and what are my chances of it really working for me? Is it possible now to pay by credit card?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Met vriendelijke groet / kind regards,

Edwin

Hi Edwin to control the ongoing chronic condition of rosacea you will need to fight it as best you can from all sides. The skin care regimen I sell can help I DO NOT profess it is some "miracle cure" it DOES NOT work for all people (no treatment for any condition does and of course a percentage of people who purchase will not have rosacea but other undiagnosed conditions, diabetes, lupus etc) but as you can see from the corresspondence on the site for many it is making the difference and working admirably. The products must be used in conjunction with avoidance of trigger factors as detailed in the instructions supplied with the order - if my guidelines are not adhered to don't expect success. You may also wish to consider some of the drugs mentioned on the site. I haven't set up credit card ordering yet sorry it'll still be some weeks I imagine. So a personal bank cheque/check is the only way to order.

Met vriendelijke groet

Dear Sir/Madam,

I have had acne vulgaris since I was about 13. I have tried almost everything to try and get rid of it. Right now I am getting monthly facials to deep cleanse my skin and I apply pure tea tree oil to my spots twice each day. I am also taking tetracycline (two tablets twice each day) and trying to drink about 2 litres of water each day. I have heard about Dalacin T do you know if it really works to clear up acne vulgaris and do you think that it will work better than tea tree oil. Please write back to me with your advice as I am absolutely fed up of having spots and I want to get rid of them once and for all,

Thank you

Laura (18).

Hi Laura ask your Doctor about Isotrexin or Differin both more powerful acne vulgaris Vulgaris treatments (you may wish to consider my Aloe Vera skin care regimen in conjunction to help with side effects like dry skin and redness) also consider the contraceptive pill Dianette. Let me know how you get on.

Hallo,

I'm 31 and have had rosacea for at least 11 years. I am currently 5 months pregnant and I have found that my skin is far worse - even with no alcohol and a reatively healthy diet. When I was pregnant with my first child my skin improved greatly towards the end of the pregnancy but again got worse at the beginning. I am using Dalacin topical lotion which doesn't really help. I can't find any washing or moisturising products that agree with my skin.

I would like to try your products can you advise me whether they are safe to use during pregnancy or would you advise that I wait until after the birth.

Thanks Nicola

Hi Nicola it is common in pregnancy for rosacea to flare up and unfortunately I don't recommend any of my products or any medication or treatments for use during pregnancy you just cannot take the chance and you will also need to consult your Doctor about any treatments when you are nursing. The instructions below I send with orders may help you.

kcn...from Michael in Korea.
The Aloe gel is nice but i must confess i'm a little discouraged. The
oriental doctors around here assured me that with the "right medicine"
they can cure my rosacea--$600 and 2 mths later --nothing! I had ETS surgery
for my sweaty hands and facial flushing 3 years ago--my hands are great but ,
as far as my face goes...nothing, I've had one V-beam treatment last week and
so far I don't notice any difference--but maybe my nose seems a little
better...I have 2 treatemnts to go and, right now, i'm getting the sense
that i just waisted $1000. The gel feels nice and i will continue to use
it...I like the product...but i really don't think it's helped too much
with the redness. i'm certainly confused...my face had been fine my whole life--until about
5 years ago...I don't consider myself as having a severe case of rosacea and
my skin is smooth and acne vulgaris -free... it sounds like many people on the
internet forums have a much more severe case of rosacea and are more
confined in their lives than i am BUT, even still, I can't seem to rid
myself of it and find it difficult to ignore the condition.
I guess, what i really need is some sort of definitive strategy that will
produce beneficial results--either psychologically or physically.
At any rate, i'll persist and see what happens...take care and all the
best....Michael

Hi Michael that is very disappointing but I'm pleased to see your going to carry on fighting. I began to have a red face last week and all it was, was that I got cocky and started drinking tons of tea again! I stopped the tea slapped some more Aloe Vera on and great! so you see just one factor can make the difference - I know your a coffee drinker have you stopped completely with tea and COFFEE? Are you using an electric shaver?

Hi kcn,
Thanks for the advise.
I'll do my best!
I'm going to order the shampoo and another facial cleanser quite soon.
All the best and it's great to have you as a contact/friend.

I am 21 and live in Holland.I have had acne vulgaris since 12 and 2 months ago it was enough and I started taking Dianette. It works really well but lately my libido is dropping a bit.A lot of things in my life can cause this but I heard a hormone pill like dianette can cause it too.I want to know if dianette is strong enough to cause this and if others have experienced the same thing with it.

Hi thank you for writing I shall post your email and see what response we get - you may find the following helpful. Best wishes and take care kcn

thanks for your website - very informative & helpful

re taking aloe vera internally - is it ok to take it in conjunction with other supplements - for example Hypericalm - or does this cause an adverse reaction?

I also read recently that red clover is supposed to be effective against acne vulgaris when taken internally - have you come across this?

Jules

Hi Jules I've just started selling and taking myself the Aloe tablets, hypericalm and Vitamins 3 days ago (now a week ago and feel great! kcn.). I have no reports of interactions but both Hypericalm and Aloe Vera can and do help some conditions therefore they are altering the body chemistry and are therefore drugs in my book so you must check with your Doctor about interactions please.

I don't think I have heard of red clover if you do try it let me know how you get on.

Thank you so much for your kind comments.

Hi - I've just discovered your website. I have had this condition for some time but like most people had no idea about it. It's got to the stage where I won't answer the door unless I'm coated with foundation. Thanks for the site

Sincerely

Bev

Hi

So let me get this straight, you take these Aloe Vera pills and your rosecea clears somewhat? Is this found anywhere esle rather than here? Would I find ALoe Vera pills in my local GNC?

I suffer from rosecea and hate it....I would love to try this product.

Please answer my questions before I make a final decision

thank you

mary

Hi Mary I've had rosacea for 25 years. I started this self help site 18months ago. Around last christmas I started using Aloe Vera products and found at last I had an effective treatment. About 8 weeks ago I started selling them from the site. They do NOT work for everyone no treatment for any disease does, we all have slightly different body chemistries depending on our inherited genes (this makes some people susceptible to some illness others have resistance and this is why some side effects occur in some people and not others). Having said that many are having the same success as me and as I say some are not (it is essential to follow the advice I give with the orders some do not comply with my advice of course).

I'm afraid I don't know what a GNC is.

The usual products to try first are the Gel, Moisturiser and Wash. If you think your shampoo may be irritating I would also try mine. You may want to try the other products Aloe tablets, Vitamins etc I've only just started taking them 3 days ago (now a week excellent! kcn) so I can't recommend them or not (although they have very good press).

Aloe Vera has been used as a medication for thousands of years - it is generally accepted as a skin treatment world wide and in many periodicals and publications it's virtues are extolled.

If I can help further please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hello there....I'm a 52 year-old female and have had rosacea for almost 25 years! It hasn't worsened over the years. I've tried every therapy possible and spent a lot of money in the process. The best medication for me is tetracycline although I'm not keen on taking it but it does clear up my skin beautifully. At the moment I'm not taking antibiotics....am trying Udo's oil (essential fatty acids) and betaine, a supplement to encourage hydrochoric acid in the gut. Have you heard of this? I see you also like Aloe Vera gel which I haven't tried yet. I'll let you know how the Udo's oil and betaine works for me as I've only been taking it for a few days. Thank you so much for providing this site for info on rosacea. Yours truly, Susan

Hi Susan thank you so much for your kind comments. Betaine supplements are certainly worth trying. Some people think it may help if they believe helicobacter pylori bacteria in the gut is a causative factor in there rosacea symptoms - a recent study showed it was - another recent study showed it wasn't doh! studies? hehe! And you are right I do like my Aloe Vera products I only found them a few weeks ago and I've had rosacea for 25 years too.!

Hi:
Please add me to your mailing list when you have any
new information to add to your already informative
webpage.
I was diagnosed with rosacea approximately 3 years
ago. I am now plagued with acne vulgaris breakouts that take
forever to heal, even with doctor prescribed
medication. It sometimes feels like I am fighting a
loosing battle.
For a person who never had skin problems in her teens,
why now that I am approaching 50 am I suffering with
this? I find also that when the acne vulgaris heals, it leaves
behind noticeable scars on my complexion.
I am also very self-conscious of my appearance and try
to use makeup to coverup the blemishes. And the sudden
outbreak of flushed cheeks as if I am blushing can
prove to be somewhat embarrassing by times.
Thank you for your time.

Sincerely
Dianne

Hi Dianne. Of course rosacea can accompany acne vulgaris Vulgaris but is
a different illness which is why I don't like the term "acne vulgaris rosacea" it is
sometimes referred to as this because acne vulgaris like spots can be a symptom. And
of course you may wish to consider dixarit/clonidine for the blushing. I've
added you to the list.

Hi there,

I've been on Differin for about a month now for acne vulgaris. My skin was
initially dry and scaly, but this has settled down. However, in the past
week I've had annoying episodes of flushing on my cheeks, occurring for
no apparent reason, or after exercise, when embarrassed etc. My face
burns to the extent that I have to put something cold on it to ease the
burning sensation. It has become more frequent and is lasting for more
than a day now. Is this a normal side-effect of Differin, or an
iatrogenic rosacea??

Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate I really cannot tell you will have to see your Doctor and get
diagnosis it sounds like rosacea and don't be put off if he/she says you are
too young - most doctors seem to think if your under 35 you can't get it,
idiots!. You can find info about the side effects of Differin from
www.gsm.com or www.rxlist.com and you may want to consider my Aloe Vera
products which may help. Let me know what your Doctor says.

Hello, my mother has recently been prescribed with metrogel topical cream.
Her skin complaint started with some skin burn in the wind which
has increasonly got worst. She is shortly going on holliday and is wondering if she can use
sun block, and if so which one she should put on first. I have looked at the sights about makeup but am still confused weather she can mix makeup with the cream.
Thank you in advance
Yours sincerely
Jon.

Sorry Jon I haven't any recommendations to make on sunblocks except perhaps
physical methods such as a sun hat and covering the face when sun bathing -
has she considered the Aloe Vera products there is no guarantee but when my
rosacea was bad I couldn't tolerate the sun now I have no problem with it
using the Aloe Vera.

Dear Sir

Your products arrived in the post today (Monday) & I only ordered Friday - thanks. Great service. I think you will very interested to hear the results after such a short time - my problems started in December 2000 & have continued until now. I bought some Aloe Vera Gel & Tablets from the Health Food shop on Saturday, so convinced was I about the information on your web site. I also stopped eating cereals with Niacin. Alpen doesn't contain Niacin, so I've switched to that. That was Saturday. Today, Monday, just two days later, the symptons have subsided dramatically & I'm well on the road to normality. I conclude that the symptons were a violent reaction to the Anti-Biotics - which the Doctor kept prescribing - totally the wrong thing to do. I'm having an Allergy test tomorrow, following your advice. I also suffer from excess acid in the stomach for which I take tablets prescribed by the Doctor. The Consultant said this was caused by a weak Reflux valve in my stomach & apart from major surgery, the tablets were the only answer. I noticed that when I was taking the anti-biotics the acid disappeared. It will be interesting to see what happens now I've changed my diet. I'm also cutting out Tea - I don't drink coffee.

You may be interested to hear my story on the flaking skin. The Consultant said it was a yeast infection. I reasoned that two products were the main supplier of yeast to my body - BREAD & ALCOHOL. I've never consumed a lot of alcohol, so the finger pointed at Bread. My wife found a recipe for 'NO YEAST BREAD'. We made some on Saturday - & now the flaking has almost gone - in just two days. The bread is superb & stays fresher, longer than ordinary bread. The recipe is as follows:-

1 lb Self Raising Flour, Half a teaspoon of salt, Half a pint of milk. Mix to dough in a bowl, place in a well greased baking tin & put in a pre-heated oven 180 degrees C for 2- to 30 minutes. Seems like a great product idea - someone should launch it.

Thanks once again. I will spread the news to all sufferers I come across - which seems to be a lot!

Well I'm off today I think I'll make some, nothing like the smell of fresh bread. The caffeine in tea will probably irritate the reflux valve in your stomach, coffee is terrible for me. Anyway that is absolutely fantastic news and thank you very much for letting me know, very kind certainly perked me up! I shall certainly pass it on.

I am a 35 year old woman and have been using Klaron for about a year now. It has stopped my acne vulgaris, but my rosacea is starting up again.I happen to live in Texas and the weather is getting warmer. I work out ALOT indoors to omit the heat, but my face is red after a long workout. I was wondering if the use of both Klaron and the aloe gel would work together...mj

Hi it is certainly worth trying - although there are no reported interactions I always checking with your Doctor about them. I find the Aloe Vera extremely good for the spots associated with rosacea as well as the redness - when I exercise now instead of a red face I look positively an unhealthy pale. Although there is no guarantee Aloe Vera does not work for all (no treatment does).

Does anyone out there have this lovely combination? It seems that a lifesstyle that is good for psoriasis is bad for rosacea and vice versa. I would like to hear from anyone who might know anything about this. Carol

Hi Carol thank you very much for writing - as you say what a difficult combination to deal with. www.medscape.com have some interesting articles on Psoriasis. Have you tried Aloe Vera and the Allergenics moisturiser? I'll post your email and see what advice my readers can offer.

hello there - i've just found your site and i'm very impressed. i am a
woman who has suffered with rosacea, acne vulgaris and dermatitis for around ten years,
and have seen many different doctors. i have been prescribed everything, to no
avail, including a course of roaccutane a year ago, which i was told was a
wonder drug - it worked, but only for about 8 months and my skin is
beginning to develop spots and inflammation again. when i first went to
the doctor, aged 18, i was told that rosacea did not affect 18 year old women,
and so was diagnosed with sebhorroeic dermatitis and prescribed steroids
which naturally made things worse. when finally diagnosed wth rosacea, i
was prescribed oxytetracyclene and was on this for three years straight. this
weakened my immune system and i contracted the warts and coldsore viruses,
and sufferd extensivley with these, on top of my skin condition, in addition
to sties and numerous viral infections. the drug had no effect on my skin
whatsoever. i have also tried dianette, which gave me migraines. most of
the gps i have seen have no idea what to say to me. my most recent trip to my
new gp resulted in him telling me i had 'peri-oral dermatitis'. now i have
some medical training and i know that this simply means 'skin inflammation
around the mouth'. what he could not tell me was why it was there and what
i could do about it.

i have read up a little and have tried to change my lifestyle. but it's
hard work. I avoid caffeine, alcohol, spicy foods, tomatoes and citrus, but its
annoying to have to make a decision evey time i go out for a drink or a
curry - am i going to abstain and have no fun, or shall i just go for it
and take the consequences later???.

i don't feel i can leave the house in anything less than full makeup - i
even swim and sunbathe with full makeup on. i spend hours on my hair and
clothes and workout in order to maximise my assets and take attention away
from my face. i have spent years perfecting the art of makeup application,
and trying out every brand of makeup until i found one that worked. i have
to avoid all jewellery, due to my dermatitis, as i am allergic to the
nickel
that is in even high-grade gold. saddest of all, i am allergic to my
engagement ring. my doctor told me i needed a platinum one!!

i spend a fortune on different skin-care brands, but each new face wash i
try only works for about a month, before my skin flares up again. i do
find
that getting lots of sleep helps, and that stress, late nights, caffeine
and
alcohol definitely make things worse. interestingly, tee-tree oil, which
is
sold as a wonder potion, makes my skin worse. i didn't realise that niacin
was an irritant and will try avoidng this from now on.

i work with people who have sometimes quite profound disabilties, and so
am
easily able to keep my condition in perspective. and luckily i'm very
confident, am considered attractive, and have never had problems
attracting
men!!! however, it does annoy me that most people don't see skin problems
as
a serious issue. i feel i am seen as silly and vain for worrying about my
skin. people can be very dismissive, telling you you've got nothing to
worry
about, when you know for a fact that your face is covered in big red
spots,
and others feel they have the right to comment on whether my skin has
improved or not. i'm very lucky to have a lovely partner and friends who
help me keep my self-confidence high, and that my sense of self-esteem
comes
from other things than my looks. but it's very depressing and sometimes i
just look in the mirror and cry.

anyway, sorry for ranting on. i will be ordering some of your aloe vera
products, to see if they work. keep up the good work!!!

hannah

Hi Hannah
Brilliant email - I agree wholeheartedly with all you say! You will strike

Hello, I looked on your site and reviewed your new products, can i just ask is it still possible for me to buy the aloe lotion 200ml from you? as i really like it, and also the old cleanser. thankyou

Louise

Hi Louise

I'm sorry the other supplier I had was diabolical and extremely unreliable - they were out of the products for 3 weeks! what a nightmare. Anyway I tested products from the USA, Australia, New Zealand and the Canary Islands all useless! but then Eureka! suitable products from a professional supplier. I'm sure you will find the new products as good I use them and find them even better - the only difference being you have to apply the gel thinner so as to not leave a film, but I find the cleanser milder and the moisturiser more healing, you only need a tiny, tiny amount so although 50ml doesn't sound much it goes a long way. Let me know what you think Louise.

Hi there,
I have been reading all the emails on your site and I think that Aloe Vera
may help my situation. About 5 years ago I started taking the
contraceptive pill Dianette for my skin. I didnt have severe acne vulgaris but it cleared my skin
up completely. Over the last few months I have developed alot of thread
veins at the side of my mouth and have noticed small ones forming on my
cheeks. I have been to see 2 doctors, one said the veins could be due to
the pill and the other said they werent. Ideally would love to come off the
Diannette but I know the spots will return. From reading the emails on
your site Im not sure if maybe I have rosacea aswell. I have some stubborn
spots on my chin that look like red lumps that wont go away and also a few on my
nose. Nothing is helping and I read that aloe vera may be good at getting
rid of the thread veins and possibly the spots too. If so which products
should I use and how do I get hold of them???

Thanks for your help and continue the good work wit the site its
brilliant!
PS you can print my address.
Lisa

Hi Lisa the Aloe Vera gel and cleanser works very well for spots associated
with rosacea and in conjunction with prescribed medication for acne vulgaris
Vulgaris, you may wish to try the moisturiser and you may wish to consider
the multi vitamins and aloe vera capsules also, I've had a lady writing in
reporting the thread veins reducing but I don't claim the products will work
with them, it can help very well with the redness and that can lessen the
appearance of the veins but for severe thread veins laser treatment may be
the preferred option and you will need to talk to your doctor about that.
Prices are on the home page if you can't access it just email me about
prices and how to order.

I have an acne vulgaris question that has been bothering me for some time and I dont know who to ask. I decided to see what I could find on the internet and came across your site. I thought I would give it a chance and see if any other acne vulgaris sufferers had any answers. I suffered from acne vulgaris for many years and tried about a million different treatments (thats sure what it felt like) and finally after a treatment of Accutane, my acne vulgaris has pretty much cleared up. I am really very pleased with the results, but I have noticed a difference in my skin ever since then and I'm just wondering if I have permanently altered my skin from the years of medicines. For some reason, the skin on my face doesnt seem to match the rest of my skin anymore. When the rest of my body gets tan, my face stays the same. Actually, I always think it looks very pale. I just wish my skin would match the rest of me and I'm hoping I havent permanently altered it. It is about a year and a half since I finished the accutane. Before that I used Retin-A for a few years, and I dont even remember what I used before that. So, I just want to know if anybody else has experienced anything similar or has any insights. I realize this may sound like a trivial thing but it really concerns me. Thanks for any help.

Michelle

Hi Michelle I shall post your letter and see if others have had the same experience.

Subject: JOBS FOR rosacea VICTIMS??

rosacea HAS CRIPPLED ME SINCE AGE 18 OR 19 AND NOW AT 31 I STILL HAVE
EMPLOYMENT PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF IT.
IS THERE A PERFECT JOB FOR A rosacea VICTIM? OBVIOUSLY ONE WORKING
ALONE, AT HOME OR IN A TRIPWIRE-FREE ATMOSPHERE (WHICH FOR ME SEEMS TO
BE EVERYTHING)
JEFF

Hiya Jeff great to hear of you mate. I know exactly how you feel, mine
started at about the same time and lead to all sorts of emplyment and
relationship difficulties. Firstly you want to find the most effective
treatment you can and this means trying different ones metronidazole,
tetracycline, aloe vera and if flushing is a problem consider Dixarit
(clonidine) and perhaps beta blockers for job interview etc. A suitable job
I finally fell into is being self employed and working at some sort of
trade. I started by putting an advert in my local free paper as a gardener
(didn't know anything about it but you soon learn) - people ring you up and
ask you to come and do their lawns and scrape the cat &*&^ of the roses hehe
lol, anyway I did that for a bit and it was ok except for the bloody
weather, always getting rained off so no money, so I put another advert in
the paper as a decorator (I practiced on a couple of my rooms first) and
that's what I'm doing now - your dealing on a one to one basis usually with
old ladies, you make some friends, get some awkward so and so's and the
paint is terrible for your skin but it's money. Perhaps you could consider
deliveries in a van, and put an advert in for that. We'll see if anyone
else has any ideas. I know how difficult it is mate stick in and fight it.

Dear kcn,

Thank you for your reply. I have read up on Aloe Vera and I think that it
is only harmful during pregnancy if taken internally. I am going to try and
get clarification on this.

I would really like to go and see another dermatologist about my skin. I
am constantly ithcy all over which leds me to think that I have some kind of
allergy. Do you think that it might be worth going for an allergy test?

Can you recommend any dermatologists specialising in Rosecea in London
area.
Thank you for you help,

Sian

Hi Sian
I can't recommend any dermatologists I'm afraid. There is link on my links
page to an allergy testing website - I don't know anything about them
though, they linked to me so I linked back! I would ask about the testing
at your Doctors - have you told him/her that you itch all over there is a
wide variety of illnesses that would cause that symptom some serious (don't
wish to worry you but I have to point it out). Your Doctor really should
perform a full medical with blood tests etc to find out what's wrong - let
me know how you get on please.
best wishes and take care
kcn.

Having just been diagnosed with heliobacteria a gastric bacteria, I have
been looking up the site. Only to find under others e-mails that some have had
the rosacea. After the treatment the problem has gone. I found this
interesting as a few years ago I was diagnosed as having rosacea, by an old family
doctor; although I refused to use hydrocortizone cream, I did not want
thinning skin with a purple tinge- I went to the homeopath but
unfortunately cannot remember the cream. But it might be interesting for others to have
the Venus blood test and find out if they have the bacteria or at least
look into it. Ruth

Hi thank you for that Ruth. Recent studies have AND have NOT found a link
between rosacea and helicobacter pylori doh! so no definitive answer there
I'm afraid. Betaine Hydrochloride may be helpful. If you remember what the
treatment was you had please let me know.

Feeling rather fed-up having a spotty cheek, I went back to my Doctor, he recommended a local pharmacy who practised homeopathy. I've had around four different rememdies so far, my cheek is not so lumpy and the spots are beginning to fade. The reasoning behind my acne vulgaris rosacea seems to be, that my Father, who was in the Army during WW2, was in India. While out there, he would have been give more smallpox vaccinations than normal, the smallpox could have been transferred to me genetically, therefore with my advancing years and change in hormones the chemical imbalance has shown in the form of acne vulgaris rosacea..I know it sounds like a shot in the dark. But the evidence is a much better complexion, I've still got four more tablets to take. So, I'll keep in touch and tell you if the answer lies in the hands of the homeopath.

Bye for now, Susan

Hi Susan thank you very much for writing. I wouldn't call that a shot in the dark I'd call it a far fetched load of &^&* lol hehe. Unless you actually have smallpox and not rosacea well the last I heard the smallpox virus was NOT a cause of rosacea even when given to a parent!. I'm very pleased your treatment is working for you however and I'll look forward to your update.

best wishes and take care

I was diagnose with rosacea about 6 years ago. I've been pretty effective
treating it by eliminating my triggers. (Alcohol and hot drinks are the
worst!) I used Metronidazole and Klaron with moderate success, but the
best success has been using alternative medicines: Dr Wayne Diamonds
Herpanicine and an EFA (essential fatty acids) supplement that contains omega 3.6. and
9. My skin has never looked better except for monthly acne vulgaris. Any
prescription acne vulgaris medications help the acne vulgaris but aggravate the rosacea.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Taryne

Hi thank you very much for that I shall pass it on to the other readers.

Hello

I am considering ordering your range of Aloe Vera products for the treatment of rosacea which I have had to learn to live with over the last 6 years.

I would just like to know what you mean when you say the products are totally natural. I have looked at countless skin care products which claim to be natural until you read the list of ingredients. To me, natural signifies purified water + the natural product in question + other natural ingredients free from preservatives, rather than a list which reads like a chemistry text book.

I.e:Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil,Glycerin,Isopropyl Palmitate,Polysorbate 80,Sorbitan Stearate,Cetearyl Alcohol,Panthenol,Bisabolol,EDTA,BHT,Acrylates/C10-C30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer,Methylparaben,Sodium Hydroxide,2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol, to name but a few.

When I read these lists, it absolutely horrifies me. Surely all this junk cannot be good for your skin especially if it is sensitive skin as well.

Please could you send me a list of the full ingredients in these aloe vera products before I decide upon ordering.

Gratefully yours

Bea

Hi Bea thank you very much for your interest. In response to your request I've just put a page on the website with a list of the full ingredients go to www.acne vulgaris-rosacea.co.uk and underneath the product descriptions in the box you will find a list of ingredients. I don't say all the products are 100% natural - the Allergenics range are sourced from 100% natural origins. All materials are made from compounds or chemicals so don't make the mistake of dismissing something because of it's chemical name (your not going to stop drinking water because it’s H20 are you?) unless you know exactly what you are doing on the contrary I'm sure you won't be misled into thinking that because something is of natural origin it is completely safe and without side effects - if a treatment works (and these can for many) it is altering the body chemisty and is a drug (and therefore sideeffects no matter how rare or mild are possible) - most of the prescribed drugs come from plant extracts so what does natural mean anyway?

I found your web site today & it makes very interesting reading. I wonder if I could have your opinion on my case. I went to the Doctors Dec 2000 with an ear infection. He prescribed a course of anti-biotics. Whilst there, I asked him about a very small patch of dry skin on my cheek that wouldn't go away & was itching. if I scratched it, it went purple/red. He gave me a prescription for DALACIN T TOPICAL SOLUTION, an anti-biotic solution, which I was to spread on my face twice a day. Within hours of using my face was covered in bright red patches which rapidly spread to cover 80% of my face. My facial skin became very dry in these areas & started to flake severly. I revisited the doctor & he said I must have had an allergic reaction to the solution. He prescribed UNGUENTUM M Dermatological Cream. The same thing happened again but since then, the condition has persisted & not gone away. I was then put on an extended course of antibiotic tablets which made it worse & the Doctor told me to stop taking them. A visit to a Consultant followed & he said it was a foyeast infection, a form of Dandruff & there was nothing I could do. He recommended a Fungal Facewash but this made it worse. A further visit to the Doctor & another course of antibiotic tablets - that made it worse. I now find that I can't put anything on my face. Even cold water causes flaking. Is this acne vulgaris rosacea. I think the first treatment, DALACIN T, must have damaged the oil glands in my skin & now anything & everything I put on my face triggers a defensive reaction, leading to a rush of red blood cells to my face to defend against what it thinks is an attack. I have very patches of flakey skin on my cheeks, near the eyes, on my forehead & chin - about 80% of my face. The rest of my body is fine. Every day I suffer heat flushes which make my face go red.

John

Hi John thank you for writing. Do you suffer whole body heat flushes? if so perhaps a blood test for diabetes or hormonal changes may be appropriate. A flushing red face can certainly be a symptom of rosacea (it doesn't necessarily mean rosacea though) and I expect that if I applied some of the lotions you mention my rosacea would flare up, perhaps with resultant flaking and itching and flushing. Perhaps you had rosacea to begin with and these lotions have caused you to have a flare up. I've enclosed the info I send with orders below see if the triggers etc mentioned ring any bells with you - if so you may want to ask your Doctor about tetracycline or/and metronidazole topical cream for rosacea or/and wish to consider my Aloe Vera products. You may wish to consider trying the Aloe Vera products for your skin anyway there is no guarantee of course but many find them beneficial. I'm sorry I can't give a more definative answer. Was eczema or psoriasis ruled out? Let me know how you get on.

Hi again kcn~ I enjoyed reading the latest emails......although it is a bit
disheartening to know that so many people have this problem...and it seems
so many of them are young men (boys)...I really feel sorry for them. Women
can at least wear foundation and pass for flawless but not so easy for a man.
Well, I posted my check today via air mail and I am anxiously awaiting my shipment
of the products. I can't wait to give them a fair try. After what amt. of
time do you think I should make an evaluation? I've already cut out coffee
completely tho I can't entire give up caffeine...I love tea so I've made a compromise
to try to stick soley to green tea....which is high in antioxidents itself
and low in caffeine. I will limit myself to an occasional Guiness after work ( I
work in a tavern.....and can have a free one every time I work.....but I
usually don't because one really isn't enough and two is irresponsible for driving
home.....just as well, my skin will thank me for it...).I've been reading
up on Insulin and also on Candida (yeast)and the verdict is that SUGAR is
evil;.......it makes you fat, rots your teeth, upsets your insulin, taxes
your pancreas, feeds the yeast we all have in small amounts in our system and
can definately have a negative effect on our skin and aggravate acne vulgaris. Duh!!!
I should know this....I can eat a pound of Jelly beans, pass out and wake up
the next morning in a fog and not look all that pretty as well. So I think
rather than pay for those tests I will simply try to treat my body as the temple
that it is and eat as much good food and as few carbohydrates and sugars as I
can and leave out the spicy stuff which I don't care much for....and YES
Nicotine ( like niacin...which is nicotinic acid) does cause flushing and does make
those little red capillaries worse. My boss drinks booze, smokes and
drinks coffee and her skin is crap....and getting worse everyday. I quit cigs (
for the hundreth time a week ago, and as usual my skin looks 100% better just
on that count). I guess it's all about lifestyle and making the best of what
we do have. It can always be worse. I sincerely hope that I end up being one of
those emailers who raves about the aloe products. I really do. Pack it up, ready
to go....Thanks!!! Diane :

thanx again...and take
care.dg

Hi Diane
I've been using the new wash and moisturiser, working
very well - but and this is the but avoidance of the trigger factors is
essential, my products aint no miracle but they can make the difference in
many cases - it's like if I was to avoid the sun (if we ever got any in the
North of England doh!) and then sit with my face inches from a roaring fire
on an evening, it wouldn't matter how much topical or systemic treatments I
try they'll help but we've also got to help ourselves - it's like you say
lifestyle changes, I've been slipping back into drinking lots of tea and
with the Aloe Vera my threshold against triggers is greater but I still need
to avoid them as much as possible - but I can now excercise ok and drink
vast quantities of beer at the weekend so I'm happy hehe lol - what more can
a man ask for? (I couldn't before Aloe Vera both used to set my skin off).
I really hope they work for you also Diane.

Dear kcn,

I have been suffering from what has now been diagnosed as Rosecea for over
a year now. I first went to my doctors in March 2000 and then on several
occasion in the following months. During these visits my Doctor dismissed
my concerns that it could be Rosecea and said that it was only brought on by
stress, inferring that I was simply being hysterical and that I needed to
address issues of self- confidence!

Although I had insisted from my first visit that I wanted to see a
dermatologist straight away, I was told that this would be a final measure
and that the waiting list was over 4 months. I tried various treatments
such as anit-hystemins and steroid cream, which either made it worse or did
nothing at all. Eventually I could bear it no longer and I paid £100 to
see a dermatologist in November 2000, who confirmed that it was Rosecea.

Devastated by the diagnosis I started a treatment of anti-biotics and
topical cream. Whilst this has not allowed it to get any worse and has
reduced the irritation somewhat, there is not a huge amount of difference.
However, I did feel that I was more in control.

I have recently discovered that I am pregnant and have been told to stop
all treatments straight away. Immediately my skin has been more irritated and
painful. I am terrified of it getting worse. I am finding it very
difficult to come to terms with my skin conditions. Up until March 2000 I had a very
clear complexion, something I prided myself on. Now, I feel such a mess.
My confidence has really taken and battering and I feel that there is no end
to this feeling of insecurity that Rosecea has brought.

I am finally starting to feel that I can fight back rather than just give
into the feelings of depression.

Any suggestion on how I can start treating this problem would be most
welcome.

I am so glad that I have found your website. I have spent the last year
feeling that I was very much alone. I look forward to yours and any other
fellow sufferer's replies.

Best wishes

Sian

Hi Sian thank you so much for writing. As you have found out you are not
alone and your feelings are perfectly normal a natural emotional reaction to
the symptoms you are experiencing. I do not recommend my Aloe Vera products
during pregnancy just in case, although I haven't read anything detrimental,
Aloe Vera does work (for some not all as with all treatments) and that makes
it a drug in my book and therefore the potential for side effects is there.
You are doing very well I'm proud of your ability to fight back and be aware
that the hormonal changes during pregnancy can often make the symptoms of
rosacea worse but it is only temporary and after birth and breat feeding (if
applicable) you will be able to get back on your medications and consider my
products and get your rosacea under control again - so be brave and stick at
it. I have enlosed below information that should be of some help. Let me
know how you get on. It's 8.30am and I've got to go now - painting
someone's garage mmmmn nice...not!

I have very rosy cheeks. I have tried camouflage make ups but they all shine through. I blush very easily and suffer from hot flushes often. It's really embarrassing. I do not know whether I suffer from rosacea and I don't know what to do. Do i go to a dermotologist or a doctors and if so what will happen. It's really knocking my confidence and I hate going out. I can't even discuss it with my family. Please could you give me some advice about what I should do next.

Thanks in anticipation.

When replying please use this address

Hannah

Hi Hannah

I hope this is the correct address to reply to there wasn't another. It is very embarrassing until I started this website 18months ago I couldn't discuss the problem with family and friends. Why not get some correspondence going with people off the pen-pals page it really does help talking about it with others who understand. The first thing to do is see your doctor, don't hold your breath for a correct diagnosis however (whether you have rosacea or not) unfortunately as you can see from the correspondence underdiagnosis and misdiagnosis are common and it is therefore necessary for it to be your responsibility to take action to find the best possible treatments for yourself. As I said in the first instance this means your Doctor if you not happy with him get a second opinion at the same medical practice or change practice if they don't take dermatological problems seriously - you may have to insist on seeing a dermatologist or paying to see one privately. Meanwhile read up on all the information you can so you can make informed decisions. The symptoms you describe do not necessarily mean you have rosacea. Discuss the drug Clonidine it was first found to be useful for women during the menopause suffering hot flushes and it is used by rosacea sufferers for blushing. You may want to ask your Doctor about prescribed medication for the redness on you cheeks or/and you may wish to consider my Aloe Vera products - either way the info below should be of assistance and please let me know how you get on.

Follow the link on my links page to another site about blushing not associated with rosacea.

hi, i'm 19 male and i've been suffering from severe, and i mean really
severe, acne vulgaris for a long time now, about 4 - 5 years. i have literally
tried every medicine out there and usually it will just work for a while and
then it would come back again. lately, it seems to be getting worse. my
whole back, chest and neck are now covered with acne vulgaris. i've tried
dermatologists and they don't work. what do u think i should do? it's getting kind of
embarrassing and it also hurts already. could u please give me some
advice on what i should do? thanks. ---- Raul

Hi Raul
I understand completely how you feel mate. For severe acne vulgaris the course of
action is systemic Isotretinoin which is only prescribeable under
hospital supervision (as an out patient, does not neccesitate a hospital stay) so
see your Doctor again and ask to be refered to a dermatologist. Let me know
how you get on.

thanks for the immediate reply. how much would this cost? and how long is
the treatment? you see, i'm a student and it gets kind of hectic.

Hi Raul
the treatment may be given over months. It is the most powerful treatment
that is given for acne vulgaris Vulgaris and may have many side effects - see
www.medscape.com but for severe acne vulgaris Vulgaris such as you describe your
Doctor may see it as necassary. I presume you are in the States and I
cannot say how much it would cost I'm afraid, as in the UK health care is
free provided by taxes.

Thank you for the reply. I have been treating with a dermatologist until last Friday. When I went for my appointment my doctor sent me to University of Michigan for a biopsy and a consolation with the dermatologist there. The doctor there thinks it is a fungus of some sort but we won't know until the results of the tests come back, which won't be until next Friday. The condition is worse and I am getting very worried, I will keep you posted on what they find.

Peggy

Hi Peggy thanks for keeping me posted, good luck.

Dear kcn,

Im really confused about my acne vulgaris im not sure if i've got scars or what, on
my face there are few redish patches and all the spots i get now leave these
red patches can u please tell me what these r because they r taking like a
million years to go away and i have two dark red patches which r not going
some r mildley red and some r darker red and the darker ones r the ones
which r causing the problems, because i am 16 and finally outgrowing acne vulgaris thank
god but there a just a few patches plus my skin is smooth where these patches
are, i cant fell no lumps there can u please tell me what these spots are
and how long they will take 2 go and 1 more thing can u give me a link to a
site with pictures of people with different types of acne vulgaris. Your site is great
and keep up the good work

Raj

Hi Raj it is normal for the redness from the inflammation of the spots to
take much longer to go than the swelling it may take 6 weeks and although
you are young the older you get the longer you skin takes to heal itself.
www.medscape.com may have pictures for you.

I've just found your excellent site. I've recently been diagnosed with
seborrheic dermatitis or rosacea of the eye area and its making my life a
misery. I have a little on my face and ketaderm cream/nizoral helps this a
little but can't be used in the eye area. I'm 45, a woman, and having to
go without makeup, cleansers, etc. and hardly dare go out. My eyes feel
sticky, burning and I've also been diagnosed with keratitis as a result of
the constant irritation. My dermatologist can only suggest I use fresh
cucumber, morning and night, but this isn't truthfully helping. Any ideas
and is there such a thing as organic mascara or some sort of natural
eyelash colouring I can use that won't irritate further? Also what are your
thoughts about Dianette (combined cyproterone acetate & oestrogen) -
suggested by my Gyn - to reduce the dermatitis/rosacea.

Any comments gratefully received.
Lizzie

Dianette certainly could be worth a try - I suggest it to female acne vulgaris
sufferers. I'm getting more and more make up recommendations in all the
time and will (soon I promise) put a special page on the site with just
those tips. Ask your Doctor about Loteprednol steroidal eye drops for your
eye irritation. Nizoral is an antifungal agent. I would certainly
recommend trying my Aloe Vera products (no guarantees of course) but they
help many. I do not recommend using in the eyes but if a bit of the gel
happens to get in mine well so be it.

Hi there!
Stumbled onto your website and like it very much! Thank you for the
service! I just wanted to contribute my experience.
I am no doctor, but I do have experience with acne vulgaris and I especially
appreciate that you acknowledge the effect of emotional stress on
acne vulgaris! I was living in a very stressful and emotionally abusive
situation at home in Europe and I was very depressed, although at the
time I didnt' realize how depressed I was. In my early teens I had
moderate to severe acne vulgaris and in my upper teens it reduced to mild to
moderate, but it didn't dissappear entirely. At age 20, I left my
home to spend a year as an au-pair in New York.
About a month into my stay in New York, I noticed a difference in my
skin. It cleared up a lot! During my stay in New York my skin got
over all a lot better, but again, some of the acne vulgaris persisted. To make
a long story short, after eight years and much inside work (therapy,
changing my ways, leading a happier life etc.) I only get flare-ups
every once in a while.
Today, I have learned to recognize when I get flare-ups and how to
avoid or minimize them. I don't know if anyone else out there has a
similar experience, but my acne vulgaris flares up almost immediately after
eating sucrose (refined sugar) and/or lactose (sugar found in dairy
products). So I try to avoid these types of sugars and as a sugar
addict it is f^%**!!-n HARD!!!!
The other thing I wanted to share was that when I do get a zit or
two, I kill them with garlic! I cut a fresh clove of garlic in slices
and rub it onto the zit and leave it on over night. It stinks like
you wouldn't believe, but in the morning, it's usually almost
completely gone!
So, anyway, I just wanted to share....
Again, thanks for a wonderful website.

Jelena :)

Hi Jelena

Excellent letter thank you so much I shall certainly pass on your interesting thoughts which I'm sure will be of great interest to the other readers.

there's something else i'm confused about. you say niacin is bad, and i dont doubt it.

but how can Oil of Olay in their new so called wonder moisturiser 'Total Effects' (at £18.50 a bottle!) boast about

its Niacin content , while saying using this product will reduce redness!!?

it doesnt..ive used it (for several months), and while it is not a bad moisturiser, it certainly doesnt reduce redness.

and as for their other products...you might as well pour acid on your face!

Laura.

Hi Laura

hehe well I honestly don't know about applying Niacin to the face - I would certainly hesitate - but when I mention Niacin I am refering to ingesting Niacin. Niacin especially in high doses (and it is now added to cereals etc) can cause flushing in any one and so for rosacea sufferers it is especially important to avoid. It is also impossible to make blanket claims about any product or treatment as our body chemistries are all slightly different and the symptom of "redness" may have all sorts of different causes.

best wishes and take care

kcn..
