Hi

I am 38 years old and have been suffering from rosacea for about two years, although have always been prone to flushing when hot, after exercise etc.  I am finding it difficult at times to deal with it.  I live in Edinburgh, Scotland has anyone had success with knowledgeable doctors up here, I am also interested in photoderm treatment but am pregnant at the moment so what treatments I can and cannot try are somewhat restricted.

I am female, in my mid-30's and live in Canada (Toronto).  My ancesters are from Scotland, England, Ireland and Germany.  I've had this condition for YEARS.  I still can't get used to the staring.
I have tried a few treatments, ok, a LOT of them - and none seem to work for very long.  I have recently heard about Bioptron light therapy - and may give this a try.  Anyone out there tried this???
I love the outdoors, skiing and sailing, etc - so I get a lot of cold, hot, wind and sun.  I know this doesn't help any - but I REFUSE to give these activities up.
There is a GREAT book, Rosacea, which describes the side effects and worsening of the condition when you use drugs to try to treat it......
I welcome any emails.  Peace.

hiya
My name in louize im 22 and live near manchester in cheshire. I have
suffered from acne since i was 14 ive been on various treatments like
minocycline, oxytetracyclin, dianette but none of these worked they
sometimes looked like they were working but then id finish the treatment and
they would flare up again.
I got reffered to a dermatoligst in 2002 he tried me on a few different
things but they didnt shift my acne either after a while he mentioned
roaccutane but ive heard bad things about it so i kept on trying
different treatments.
None of them got rid of my acne completley so ive decided to try
roacctane ive only just started taking it. Im just hoping i dont get bad side
effects and that it does the impossible and gets rid of my acne.
Heres hoping!
If anyone wants to talk to me about being on roacctane or just wants
someone to talk to someone who understands them then email me.

Hello everyone,

My name is Mark, I'm 24 years old and live in Worcestershire, in the Midlands. I have had acne for several years now, it was very mild to begin with and treatments such as Benzoyl Peroxide, though didn't clear it completely, held it at bay for quite a while. Then my doctor suggested trying tetracyline tablets, wich cleared my skin up very well after only a few months...time went on and and my acne started returning with a vengence! I have since tried erythromycin (which actually worked very well for a while) and later clindamycin, but my acne has steadily gotten worse and I am now back using tetracyline again. It has really knocked my confidence as everything I seem to do has little or no long term affect and you think that by the time you reach 24 then hopefully problems with acne should be coming to an end. I have been back on the tetracycline for a month now, but am seriously considering trying Roaccutane, but the more I read about it, the more double minded I am becoming, However, I have reached the stage where I just want rid of them once and for all now.
Anyway, it would be really great to hear from any of you that are experiencing something similar, any advice or suggestions you may have, or if you just fancy a chat, then please do get in touch.

You can contact me on: mjackz100@hotmail.com

Bye for now

Hi My name is Samantha.  I have suffered with acne since the tender age of 11, I am now 34. My acne is much improved now but i am left with scarring which is just as devastating as the acne was.  I have just started having Glycolic Acid Peels and Dermabrasion to try to deal with it.  I had C02 Laser treatment last year that was unsucessful.  I wonder if it was unsucessful because it was not the Consultant Dermatologist who carried out the treatment but his assistant?

I am not enjoying the peels or dermabrasion much, to be honest it's bloody horrible but I am praying that it will help. If it doesn't I will be £300 down, very disappointed and will move on to the next treatment! I would like to hear from anybody with similar experiences. I try not to let my scarring rule my life but I am afraid it does, I think about it every waking moment of my life and constantly wish i could have a normal face.  It really has an effect on my personality, inside I am quite an outgoing person who enjoys talking to people but I keep a low profile as possible due to the scarring, I really want to socialise with others but I just cringe inside when people look at me.

My self-esteem is at an all time low. It is so frustrating. I am sick of having to spend so long in front of the mirror every morning applying 'Veil' It works quite well but it doesn't matter how much make up you put on scarring it still shows up (especially in the wrong light)!  I really feel that only another sufferer can possibly understand what I am going through.    When I am feeling really low about my face the only thing that keeps me going are my beautiful children.
If there is anyone out there who can relate to this and would like to have a good old moan with me that would be great! I would love to hear from you.

Hiya....I'm Lisa, 30 yrs old, originally from Glasgow but now living in Luton, just north of London. Recently diagnosed with Rosacea, my face was a mess for months and tried various things but now have it under control with Rozex cream (Metrogel made my skin too dry and didn't cleear it up as well). Would be happy to hear from others in the same boat.

Drop me a line :-)

Hi,

I'm Andrew, I'm 24 and have had rosacea for about 6 years. I live in Glasgow and would describe my condition as ok but could be better. I have had some photoderm treatment before when I was in australia and that definitely helped. My skin is fairly consistently a mild shade red which doesnt bother me that much but when I get flushed it becomes really uncomfortable and gets to me. I dont really have much of a problem with dry skin or spots and lumps.
Have been considering further Photoderm treatments aswell as researching ETS as this seems to be the root of the problem.
Just looking to hear from anyone in Glasgow area or elsewhere who fancies a chat about things / has had experience of photoderm here.
Paul serreno?? I have tried to e mail you but your address doesnt seem to work, please drop me an e mail if you want.

All the best

Hello fellow sufferers,

I'm Kev, I'm 24 & if youre reading this then like me u probably have shit skin, but wot can u do?
I've suffered from bad acne since I was 14(10yrs of hell!)& over the years have tried every antibiotic, including 2 courses of roaccutane, & every so called miracle cure going spending a lot of £ in the process but nothing has ever worked.
None of my friends have a problem with bad skin & so don't understand how it can affect you mentally(Agh I'm a freak, must hide away!). This has made my social life difficult in the past when I am feeling depressed and/or don't want 2 show my(spotty)face in public(I know u can all relate 2 that).
At the moment I am using aloe vera tablets & gel along with the allergenics shower gel & moisturiser & can happily say that although I have only been using them 4 a couple of weeks have already seen an improvement so fingers crossed it keeps working.
I like 2 think of myself as very easy going & now just want 2 get as much fun out of life as I can, not easy when u suffer from acne/rosacea I know but u gotta try, right?. So if anyone out there needs someone 2 talk 2, even if its just 2 bitch & moan cos I wish I'd had someone 2 talk 2 about this over the last few years(& still do), please feel free 2 contact me.

Take it easy & avoid those mirrors

Hello,

I'm 28, female and have suffered from acne (some years worse than others) since puberty.

The last 4 years have been particulary bad for me skin wise. I have large red, inflamed spots on my cheeks, forehead, chin, neck, chest & back (If only it was just a t-zone problem!) and this has really affected my life.

I've been on various anti-biotics for years. I try one for 6 months, don't see any improvement and the doctor puts on a different one - usually one I've tried before and didn't work, but my GP doesn't actually seem to register that. I've had every topical treatment under the sun. At the moment I'm sporting a very fetching benzyl peroxide peel over swollen, pustulant spots. I hear it's all the rage - Not.

What people don't seem to realize about acne is the way it affects your life, not just your skin. I don't go out and see my friends anymore - I haven't for years. I've lost most of them with flimsy excuse after flimsy excuse for not being able to meet them. How do you explain to people that you can't see them because your skin looks so disgusting that you can't even bear to look at it yourself, let alone have other people see it? I just seem to spend most of my life with my hair over my face and huge orange blobs of concealer over scabby spots. Both of which are incredibly bad for my skin, but are the only way I can function a near normal life.

I'm just trying to get a new GP, so fingers crossed they'll be a little more help than my old one, but if anyone has any words of wisdom I'd be glad to hear them. There's only so many times you take a child asking their mother why your face is like that, before you don't want to even the house.

  Hello all

Finally after years of visiting the doctor he said "you've got Rosacea".
I  had to accept that I had a dry skin condition for years. I would get a
red  face for seemingly many things and about 6 years ago I started to get a
sore  patch around my mouth. This has spread over time to my chin, my cheeks,
the  top of my nose either side of it and on my forehead. I also started to
get  very dry eyes that even with eye drops I couldn't alleviate. Most of the
time my eyes are slightly bloodshot but I have days when they are very
white.

Environmental conditons play a large part in the condition of my facial
skin  and I have found wind, dry air, extremes of temperature, the Sun, car
heating systems, air conditioning systems and household central heating
systems to make my skin red and sore. Anything that upsets my nervous
system  causes me to look 'weathered' like driving long distances, flying and
the  whole process of preparing to fly, meeting people, job interviews,
dental appointments. In fact the only time I can really manage to look 'normal'
is  sitting at home relaxing on my own away from everything.

I have found some things to sooth the face or lessen the soreness.
Immersing my face in a sink of cool water helps quite a lot. Exercise, especially
facial sweating I found to be extremely beneficial to the sore patches
on my face around my mouth and chin. Yes I know that apparently exercise
causes flushing and should be avoided but in my opinion exercise is extremely
beneficial both physically and mentally.

One of the worse offenders for worsening my condition in my case was
alcohol. I have given this up entirely and my skin started to look a
great deal better after just a week of abstinence. Yes I will miss the red
wine and the Cava, the cans of beer in the evenings but I think it's for the
best to completely avoid it because it can force you into a cycle whereby you
drink to make you feel better about your skin that the alcohol irritates
further.

I've had problems with my skin since I was 20. I am now 36 and was
diagnosed with Rosacea two days ago (6th July 2003). Finally being diagnosed has
been the most positive thing that's happened to me for a long time. I now
feel that I can deal with this disorder and move on with my life. I am a
single male living in the Milton Keynes area of England who has worked as a
software developer for many years (I'm now going to look for a new
position locally). I am renting a very nice property and I own a Jaguar so if
there are any nice ladies out there between their mid 20s and mid 40s who
would like meet, talk, dine etc. write to me. I have never married and have no
children but am a good looking guy, just a bit shy and sometimes
introverted understandably.

Hi,

I've been an acne sufferer since the age of sixteen and have felt depressed on many an occasion. Now at the age of twenty six I still suffer from acne but the depression isn't so bad, due to work and keeping busy in general. Although I still have a bizarre tendency to look in every mirror, people simply don't realize how over powering a problem to the complexion can be to a person with acne.

Through out the years I've used oxy, Clearasil, Johnson's you name it. Even down to the last nasty treatment that came in the form of a substance called Penoxyl 5, 10. Beware this stuff bleaches your clothes and even takes a good tan out of your skin. The best so far is Zineryt, I used this product for 36months at the age of sixteen of which my acne cleared completely. Just started using it again at the age of twenty six, works great.

Shame this stuff is only available from your doctor!!!

If anyone wants to chat send mail to Drgonzo242001@hotmail.com

Thanks for reading,

Hi, my name's Karen and like everyone else I suffer from acne rosacea,
I'm  43 and was diagnosed 2 years ago, albeit a mild case, its still very
frustrating.   The red veins I can cope with, have recently tried photo
rejuvenation but as I've only had one treatment (they say it should take
about three) I can't really say if its worked, it defiantly seems to
have  calmed it down a bit though, but its the red itchy spots I find hard to
control, I get them on the side of my chin and always in the same place.
I was prescribed Tetracycline which does seem to clear the spots up but
you then have to put up with the side effects (constipation! not
nice!!) -  so Im now aiming to try for the natural approach (aloa vera juice) to
see  if this helps, will keep you posted on the photo rejuvenation!

Also find the Simple range of cosmetics work well for me!

Thanks
Karen

Hi there. Think this site is really useful if you're having a bad rosacea
day - it helps to know you're not alone! I'm 33, male and started developing
rosacea myself about 5 or 6 years ago. Have tried numerous treatments for
thread veins/ blotches [Keep a look out for Protective Soothing cream from this site around
Summer 03, WM],
Photo Rejuvenation being the most thorough (although
most expensive), but  it did produce severe bruising for two weeks which was
really awful and has put me off going for more. Am currently getting quite a
few tiny pustules (nice word!) on my cheeks and forehead which I try to
cover up with cover stick. Not easy is it? Have had 6 months of tetracycline
but saw no improvement. Despite this, am determined not to let this get me
down. Life's too short. Would be happy to correspond with others. Perhaps we
can swap stories. A problem shared and all that...

Hi, I'm a 22 year old gay male who has recently moved to the Midlands. I was diagnosed with rosacea about 4 years ago, sometimes its good and sometimes it has a bad patch! I'd like to talk to other gay rosacea sufferers, around 18-25, for sympathy, friendship and advice! Contact me if you'd like to have a chat about your experiences with it - I can't be the only gay male who has the condition!!

Hi everyone,

My name is Lauren, I am 26, an Australian living in Hertfordshire. I have just diagnosed myself as having acne rosacea.  I developed it last year after an allergic reaction to a new cosmetic moisturiser and at first I thought it was just dry skin and scarring...but then it never went away and instead it spread into that familiar pattern and intense flushing that we all know.  Last week I did a reverse parallel park and the flushing I got for 30 seconds was enough to stuff up my whole day!.  However after doing some research (I am a nurse) I discovered this website and was so relieved.  I felt a bit selfish but I have never been so happy to know that there are so many other people out there with this- You all know what I mean.  So I have my first appointment with a dermatologist next week and I feel so empowered now. My complete regimen kit, shampoo and aloe vera tablets arrived this morning and I haven't rushed to the bathroom mirror that quick in months.  So I am at that stage where I hope this will be as successful for me as it seems to have been for lots of you.  I am very nervous about trying new products for the first time again and would love some moral support from people who have been or are going through this.  Good luck to everyone.

Hi, my name is Tonya, and I live in the states.  I live in Kansas and I have been suffering from this disease for almost 8 years.  Up until this point, I had great skin and had hardly ever even had a pimple.  I was diagnosed when I was pregnant with my second daughter.  I had chalazions develop in my eyes and I had to have them cut out of my eye lids.  I have been on several creams and antibiotics.  Nothing seemed to work.  3 years ago, I lost my insurance so I have had no medical treatment from a doctor since then.  I have tried creams and such to keep my face a least a little less dry, but nothing seems to help.  I am definitely going to try the aloe vera treatment and see if I can get it to help.  I would love to hear from anyone who wants to share experiences.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi.

I'm I've "always" had this "problem skin". It started off with acne when I
was around 18. My face, my chest and my back. The various doctors I saw all
gave me Tetracycline, which helped, but only for a while.

At the age of 30 I started working in the computer industry, something which
I suspect did not help this condition? I still didn't look all that bad, but
I couldn't hide the fact that something was happening to my face. After a
few more years, people started talking about me, behind my back, and a few
commented on my red face and my now red/bluish, bulbous nose, wondering if I
had a drinking problem. Well, in a way I did have a drinking problem, as I
couldn't afford to drink a lot. The prices on alcohol where I live makes
that impossible!!! I tried to hide the "blemishes" under a layer of
skin-coloured cream, but this probably made things worse. I was/am married
and have two children. In the end my wife and kids suffered "with" me, as I
started refusing to go out with them. I hated going out among people. They
were staring at me and I knew why! If they didn't stare, I just knew they
were or would be talking about me!

Just before I turned 40 I went to a doctor because of an "ear-problem". He
could not help me, but he was VERY interested in my nose and told me I could
be helped! He was the first doctor to mention rosacea in all those years. I
was sent to a hospital with experts on various skin deceases. I met a doctor
who took an interest in me and he told me that the type of rosacea I was
suffering from was called Rhinophyma, that there was no cure, but that they
could help me. What he suggested was surgery. At that time I felt that a
"nose jobb" was not the thing for me, but as he said; "a small, red nose is
easier to hide than a big, red nose". So I had a "nose job" done; a shaving
of the nose. Lots of blood, but I had a wonderfull experience at the
hospital during that period. People knew what I was going through and they
seemed to care. After 4 weeks, partly off from work, I joined the human race
again! My nose looked (almost)like a normal nose, smaller, not so red.
People stopped looking at me. Being almost anonymous was a blessing. I
started looking people in the eyes again!

Around two years later I was urged by the doctor who operated on me to try
lazer treatment to remove ruptured blood vessels. In spite of this being
rather costly, I went through it. Lazer was used on my nose and my cheeks.
There was very litle pain involved, although the tip of the nose was a
challenge! I had to hide again, for 14 days, but the result was great. I was
now using a cream called Elysol, which seemed to stop the rosacea from
worsening.

I have never tried to find out what triggers the rosacea. I have never tried
to change my diet. In my opinion I tend to get better during summer, being
IN the sun. I have also found that talking to people, explaining, could
sometimes be better than hiding from them. I have found that "meeting"
people, doing things, is better than doing nothing. During my "good period"
I started diving and motorcycling. I prefer being looked upon as the diver
with the red nose, rather than that tall (190 cm), ugly guy with the big,
red bulb in his face! If things get too bad I can always hide under water or
within my helmet!!??

This is now 8 years ago. Things are starting to look bad again and I believe
it's time for another lazer treatment. I don't think surgery is needed this
time. The Elysol seems to have stopped doing anything for me! I'll give the
Aloe Vera treatment a go first.

If you have ideas, suggestion, questions, feel free to mail me at
seksveen@c2i.net

Regards

Stein

Hi, my name is Ben. I wondered if anybody can relate to this one: Physical exertion (working all day) and or playing sports brings on the red face for me. And now days it seems to last for a week and even two at a time depending on the stresses going on in my life. I've always loved to work outdoors and play sports- I don't like this condition. Besides making me a red faced guy I have other symptems that go along with the redness, such as: irritibility, nervousness, redness in eyes, lack of concentration. My whole body feels phsically different and "jumpy/jitery" when I'am experenicing this. When it's bad I just usually feel like going home from wherever I'am and isolating. Can anybody relate to those other syptems that go along with the redness? This started when I was 32 I'am 38 now. It's taken me years to finnally diagnose myself and I'am greatful to do that with the help (big time) of finding this site.  I also noticed this starting at the same time I moved to a colder weater climate. The cold (around frezzing or below) seems to trigger it for me also. I seem to have much less of a problem when I'am down in the milder climate (Well above frezzing).
I guess I'll just move back to a warmer climate, never phsiclly exert myself or play sports again. God forbid I should ever decide to go skiing or something. Oh yeah and I better get a computer job or something where I sit around and I'am not actually physically working.
Yeah no problem, this condition is wonderful isn't it? Ok enough sarcasem. Does taking any drugs or some antibiotics really work good? I havn't tried any yet. I've tried topical lotions to the face like metro-gel, aloevera, cetiphil ect. I'am worried because I have to start my phsical work again in a couple of months. Not to mention playing baseball in the meantime. Thank you for your support I will try to support you as well-----------from Benjam55@yahoo.com or Jamin55@hotmail.com

Hi everyone,

Love to everyone with red or inflammed skin.  I know exactly how you feel.  I know exactly how it is to wake up in the morning, and wonder if the night has been cruel or kind.  (A kind mirror is essential).

A treatment question first:  I have lots of red vein lines on my face and nose.  Has anyone had light therapy to treat this?   I'd really value advice about this, and possible treatment centres in the uk.

Anyway, I'm male, 32, and would love to hear from anyone who wants to share experiences, battles, defeats.   You're not alone, and I personally think that people with scars and wounds are infinitely more beautiful and interesting.

My email address is:

Good luck everyone,  Jesse.

Hi William,

I'm 22 and would like to speak to males around this age who are going through it too, as I think it
is particlarly bad when you're young on top!!!

Dear fellow friends,

We are all a victim of this dreadful disease and let us hope that the
medical profession wake up and put some serious time and effort into
researching this horrid illness!

For your benefit, and myself, I have composed a poem - which sums up for
me
the rosacea battle:

Germ Warfare: By Darryl

Amassing its troops an onslaught to come,
Defence is no use for its bacteria gun,
Months of peace make one feel it's gone,
When out of the darkness an onslaught will come,
Who is the enemy? Why is it me?
Like any intruder it needs not a key,
Submission arrives and your skin is invaded,
You can almost see germ warfare on your face paraded,
The enemy goes, its job once more done,
It's victim feels bleak and must hide from the sun,
Eventually peace and the enemies scattered,

Hello,

I am 30 years old, female,  living in the U.S........I just discovered this site and think it is a good idea since I never talked w/ anyone who had to struggle w/ acne the way I did.

Even though I did force myself to be a social person, I privately struggled with acne for most of my life until June of this year. It started to clear up a little and by the end of the summer it was gone! So I stopped the topical ointment treatments. Even with the approach of fall my skin was near perfect. HOWEVER, over the past 3 days I have been freaking out because I have been developing acne-type pimples again and each day I wake up with a few more. Why the resurgence? What is going on? how can I stop it???? Naturally I started the medication again, but am scared to death it is back. I can't tell you how horrifying it is to go from clear skin for the first time to waking up each day having to deal with this again. Any ideas on whether or not I can tell if it will be full blown this time?

I thank you for listening and responding, anyone who cares to share their situation with me and give some advice it will be much appreciated and reciprocated. I am very nervous about it returning completely. I can deal with a few regular pimples but don't think I could handle it the way it was red and bumpy all over my cheeks like that.

My email address is Facci72@aol.com

and it is ok to post it on the site.

Thanks.

Hello. My name is Kendra and I am 21 years old. I found out at the age of 13 that I had rosacea.  It was horrible.  I was made fun of. My self esteem was destroyed.  After awhile It got better.  I have been on topical and oral treatments.   i fianlly started feelin gbetter about my self then I got pregnant.  Being pregnat with Rosacea was frustrating.   My rosacea got really bad and there was nothing I could do about it. I just recently was able to start treatment again. My self esttem is gone again.  The doctor told me I might have scars because it got so bad.  I have learned to accept roscacea in my life. Its hard but I have accepted it. Its a part of me that isn't going away. Sure it might get better bu tit will still be there.  If anyone wants to write me feel free. Yes, you can print this and my email address.
                                                   Yours truly,
                                                                Kendra

Hi. My name is Noel. I'm 37. Had Rosacea for years (undiagnosed) :) Like to share that Photoderm treatments were very very successful in treating my condition. I would recommend it strongley although it does sting and I had dramatic bruising for  five days. Happy to share my experience.

Cheers

Hello everyone I am 23 years old and I have suffered from Rosacea since I was 18 but only found out what it was about 18 months ago, when I was younger I just thought I had a bit of a red nose, but it wasn't until I spent a year backpacking in Hot!!  Australia with all its sunshine that I realised that there was definetly a problem. After seeing a doctor in Sydney who diagnosed it straight away (maybe they have more cases out there with the sun, I don't know), I felt relived to realise that I wasn't a freak with a red nose (matty the clown/Rudolph or what ever other nicknames are out there). anyway I was prescribed some cream and some tablets(confiscated in Bangkok on the way home..... weird!!!!)  it got better slightly although I haven't used anything for over a year now and my problem has slowly got worse, i find it very embarrasing, and I have resorted to wearing make-up of all things to sort it out and that makes me very paranoid as I presume everyone knows, also it leads to spots on my nose making the problem of redness worse. Now I dread sunny days and can't wait for the winter which is really sad as I am an active out door sporty sort of a person, with an ambition to emigrate to Oz one day. So after all my blabbering, I am just interested to hear from anyone who has similar problems to me, and can reccomend anything mabe something that they have bought from this site, or from someone who would just like someone else to talk to about it or anything else. Anyway enough from me, if you are still reading, and GOOD LUCK, WE ARE NOT ALONE.also if someone stares just pretend that your'e famous and say you get it all the time and would they like an autograph. P.s I am living in Chester.

Hi my name is Ian, I am 50 and I live in the North West of England and
have been suffering from impromptu blushing for years, I also have some
redness (threadveins) to my nose. I found this site by accident and I'm
absolutely amazed, I have mentioned my condition to my doctor on many
occasions and never have they suggested that there could be a condition
that I may be suffering from and that can be treated.
I have got to the stage where I avoid speaking up in company for fear of
the blushing starting, I have sat in meetings where although I have had
plenty to say I was afraid to open my mouth!
Have I got Rosacea - I don't know, but i'd like to find out - although I
must say I haven't much faith in revisiting my GP. Are there any clinics
which specialise in this condition?
Also which are the best products to try in the meantime.
Please email me at thornfield@cwcom.net

Hi ya all fellow sufferers

My name is Dawn and I am 33 years old living in the Midlands.  I have had Rosecea for many years and was diagnosed with this condition by my GP  about 3 years ago.  This condition is VERY frustrating/depressing and embarrassing.  Yes, I have had all the comments, " have you got a cold?, why is your face so red?".  I have learned to actually cope with the looks and have gained more confidence as time goes by.  My GP has given my the usual antibiotics (Oxytetracycline),  this has really changed my skin and has it mainly under control.  I still have the redness, mainly on the nose area which usually flares up when I am stressed, the weather, when I'm hot or when I have eaten a large meal.  One thing that has helped my skin is a product name AVENE, which is French.  All the products that I use on my face are French.  This has also calmed my skin down alot.  In the hot summer weather I use Roc minesol, Factor 60 sunblock which has been great.  I recently invested in some Vichy Foundation which is also good.  I do not drink any Alcohol at all and avoid spicy foods.  I still like a drink of tea but stick to the de caff and drink it when it is slightly cooler.  I have found that all of this seems to help me.  The only thing that bothers me is the fact that I will have to always take to antibiotics and too worried to stop taking them as the condition worsens again.

Has anyone ever used any natural treatments that have actually worked?

I would like to hear from fellow sufferers.

Hi everyone!

I would like to become part of the penpal section.

Before finding this website, I felt I was the only female in her 20's suffering from such a stressful 'disease'  which is acne.  Let me tell you it's not an easy ride and there isn't a miracle cure, it takes time and effort! I had acne at the age of 12 and it cleared up by the time I was 15, then all the way through college I had a clear complexion and never gave it a second thought.  My confidence had come back, I went onto uni and then it struck again and for a while it was horrible, I became depressed and then after receiving treatment-antibiotics and zinc (zineryt) solution it cleared up by the time I went to see a dermatologist.

It didn't take long before it came back and now I'm so fed up!  At the moment I'm on antibiotics and it's not showing any signs of improvement and I too, want some quick solution, I feel my self esteem is even lower than before and my boyfriend doesn't seem to understand-he hasn't been through it like I have.

I'm perservering with the current medication and waiting and hoping that there is something to make this thing go away!

Sorry for sounding soooo depressing, but anyone who wants to share their story or has any tips for me please do not hesitate to e-mail me at:

perfectogal@yahoo.co.uk

Hi

My name is Simon, i'm only 22 years old and i've suffered from Rosacea for about a year or so. I find this problem incredibly debilitating and very embarrassing as it causes me to blush and become flushed very easily, and now even, were once the redness eventually disappeared, the horrible red blotches remain. Suffering from this while still so young is also very hard, i see no one else my going through the same, and this makes me feel very alone with this problem. I have seen a doctor and i've been prescribed antibiotics, which seem to help a little, however the gel (Rozex) prescribed seemed to cause a return of the mild acne i suffered as a teenager. Now i'm looking for more help with this problem and that is how i found myself here.

I'd dearly love to talk to other people who are going through the same things as me, especially those of a similar age but anyone who can understand, offer support, and possibly any guidance. (I start university soon, how will i cope?)

My e-mail is, wiseguysi@yahoo.co.uk

All the best

Simon.

Hi there,

I was writing to let you know that I had previously,
ordered and recieved your aloe vera gel, which has
been great, although on its own my skin can become
taught [the new formula is less tightening, tightening is
due to evaporation and not to be confused with drying
as the Aloe Vera gel is also moisturising, WM.],

but used along side the moisturizer its been
great.  I took your advice and tailored it through
trial and error.  The reason I write is that I was
hoping to hear from anyone who has had the photoderm
treatment in the UK / Scotland would be even better.
I have made an appointment to see the Regency Medical
Practice in Glasgow, which is a private clinic. So if
anyone has any war stories they would share with me
about the succes or lack of of photoderm in Socitland
I would love to hear.  I will keep anyone who is
interested up to date on my progress! Or if anyone
wants to email me feel free!  Wish me luck : )

I hope you can post this email on your readers
section!

Thanx

Hello!
My name is Debbie and I suffered from Rosacea for almost 5 years going from doctor to doctor, antibiotics to steroids.  Finally, I visited a naturopath in Germany, as I was stationed there with my husband.  He treated me for Candida and after 1 year of treatment, diet changes, and working to replenish the good bacteria in my digestive system damaged by years on antibiotics, I am comfortable saying that I am Rosacea-free.  Well, maybe not free, other than a slight pink in my cheeks, I no longer suffer from papules and the pimples that comes with Rosacea.  I did it all...even the steroid creams...but this was the only thing that really worked.  We don't realize how we are actually damaging our bodies...when we think we're "curing" something.  Long term antibiotic use is NOT good for your body.  I was very sick as a child, then took antibiotics for acne, then for Rosacea...If you have access to a naturopath PLEASE take advantage of this.  It worked for me.  OR pick up a book on Candida and follow the diet, and see if it might make a difference for you...Good luck and let me know how it goes!  You can email me at debbierenee@hotmail.com  ps...I am NOT selling anything!!  Just sharing my experience!  (and i'm not a naturopath either!!)  ;)

Hi all
My names Julie and I'm 37 years old.
I have suffered from rosecea for about 12 months but it has been getting worse and I have only recently tried to get help. (Saw doctor 2 weeks ago and he prescribed antibiotics).
I find it very embarrassing and uncomfortable. I used to love to go make-up free in the daytime, but now I cant go anywhere without my foundation "mask".
I even get embarrassed at the gym as the slightest exercise makes my face glow bright red and I looked really exhausted!
I would like to be included on the pen pal list and I would love to hear from anyone who has any tips or help for me.

JULE

I'm in my forties and have had rosacea for a few years now. Have found some relief with a couple of treatments, however tried homoeopathy without much success and likewise aloe vera. I live in the west of
Scotland and would like to speak to people in that area or even meet up to compare notes.

Please feel free to print my email address.

Thanks

Hello my name is Colleen and I am from California.  I have suffered from moderate acne for about 8 years.  I am what you call a "picker" and have many scars as the result.  The scarring and acne causes me severe depression and anxiety.  My fiance' and family don't understand why acne causes me so much distress and I would like to talk to someone who understands my pain.

Hi, I'm Michelle, a thirtysomething sufferer of rosacea for eleven years now.  Tried the lot and now have a dermatologist recommending pulse dye laser treatment.  I know it only treats the symptoms and not the cause but do I let the thread veins get worse or risk having to have the laser treatment again.  Would love to hear from anyone who is also considering laser treatment or someone who has already had laser treatment.

Yes I am a Rosacean !

Cheers!  I'm off for a glass of water now .....  no tea, no alcohol, no curry ....... no fun at all really ......

Dear all

My name is Ray Towey and I am also an acne sufferer, however I am also a
qualified hypnotherapist living in the Northampton area, and I would like to
offer my services to fellow acne sufferers for free, since I have been using
self hypnosis I have found that my condition has cleared up considerably to
the point were it is non-existent.

As I know just how embarrassing this condition can be I just thought that
I would take the opportunity to offer people the chance of trying
hypnotherapy as a way of helping them with their condition.

Regards

Ray Towey.

Hi
your products arrived today.  Fast service indeed.
Feel free to add my message to your penpal page.
I live in the North East of Scotland but travel around a lot as we do trailer tenting.  Its the only way when you own a large hairy dog!  It might be nice to meet up with others if possible.
Good luck trying to find time!  I know the problem, this is my first day off for months and I've slept through most of it.
Just realised...I am going to have to find time to use the aloe vera!

Maureens Penpal message:
Thanks for your quick reply.

I read the emails on your site and thought I would like to make some comments if that's OK.  I found it both informative and sad.
I had teenage acne and now suffer from rosacea.  It made me sad to read how people let a skin condition affect their lives so much.  I have always been of the mind that what you see is what you get, and if people have a problem with that, then tough.
My sense of humour has always been my way of coping, maybe not for everyone but I really believe you have to be positive despite the problems in your life ( and I've had a few!)
My memories of teenage acne are dimmed with age but the abiding one is trying out all the remedies available.  The most memorable was the sulphur based cream, spending months smelling like a match, didn't clear the spots but certainly closed the pores!  Comparing treatments in the toilets at break!
Now I have hormone induced rosacea.  Unfortunately I can't have any antibiotics(allergic to most).  I got HRT which gave me the choice of a beard and tache or what I know now is rosacea.  Well, as women and beards are not yet socially acceptable, guess what I chose!  I am now learning to put on makeup, been too lazy to be bothered for all my life.  Your site has been a great help in pointing me to what I should use (thanks to all for their suggestions).
As to how others react, I believe if people are so ignorant, then they are not worth bothering with, life is too short and we only get one shot at it.  Make the most of it.  No one is perfect.
I work in Community Development and this involves being in the public eye, so my skin can't be allowed to rule my life.  I need to pay the mortgage!  My best tip is to limit mirrors in the home, one in a dim light can really boost your self esteem and with age comes the failing eyesight, so you can't see anything anyway!!  See what I mean about a sense of humour!

Maureen

I have no problem with my email address being put on your site.  Please amend or adapt this message if you want.

Hello my name is Lesley and I have suffered with rosacea for a lot of years.
As I am now approaching the big 50 it is getting worse and I can no longer
take the vibromycin which used to control it. At the moment I am using
Metrotop and there is little improvement. I would love to correspond with
others who are suffering. I am told that there many other people out there
with this common complaint but I can honestly say that I have never come
across another sufferer. It is a very embarrasing  and as I have recently
started a new job at times I find my confidence low, especially when the
redness is bad, then I do not want to look people in the face. Make up, I
find does not conceal the problem for long. I hope to hear form someone soon
who understand what living with this is like.

Dear pen pals,

Let me be optimistic in my note here.

I have acne vulgaris. It may be with me all my life - quite a prospect for an otherwise happy young man in his early twenties. I got no support in my search for a cure. After all it is impossible to know how someone feels with acne of any sort unless you have the same.

I want to walk down the street and catch a glance of myself in a window or go into a brightly lit shop and not feign from mirrors. Play football for hours in the sunshine and then spend the rest of the day talking to a girl. To be able to feel my face and simply wonder when I should next shave.

This will never happen. Yet I have cause for happiness. I have found a way to live. I have not found a solution to acne. That is beyond anyone’s control. accutane. I started on 80mg and almost took my own life. Now I am on about 2mg a day, still too much for the concentration needed to revise for exams. Temporarily I am on erythromycin. It will become resistant by which time the exams should be over. And then I return to accutane ever so slightly psychotic and ever so slightly spotty.

There is hope. Good luck to you all. James - jamesboy32@hotmail.com

Hi,

I am nearly 20 and didn't really have any acne in
school (i saw loads of lads with it on their faces and
thought "ha im a lucky one!").

Then about a year ago i started feeling an itchiness
on my back.. this developed into quite bad (well it is
for me acne) i've been to the doctor twice and he
seemed really suprised by it.

he first gave me some cream (didnt really work) then
oral medication (tetracycline i think it was).. this
kinda helped but now it seems to get worse and i find
that im asking my mum to get some medication for it
(feel like a right wimp asking mummy!).

Thing is i haven't been to the doctors in ages i would
really class my acne as moderate (it can itch alot and
really stings sometimes).

I also hate the fact i cant got out in summer with a
short t-shirt on, or go in the sea for fear of scaring
some poor kid when he sees my back. The acne is
present on my upper back and arms and i get REALLY
paranoid about people looking at my arms (maybe this
is helping it get worse by worrying?)

I also have a few lasses that seem to be interested in
me. I am REALLY self-consious and don't want them to
see my back or arms (im sure it would freak em out!)
I've read on the internet that it can get better after
25 but don't want to wait till then to get try and
score with some lasses (I'm 20 FFS!!)

I know the answer is simple (Go see the doctor!) but
don't you ever get really embarrased about it?

I might try some Aloe Vera (oral treatment is probably
better than cream right?).

Phew! I know it sounds mean to all you ppl out there
but it feels better knowing tht im not the only one
(as i've read loads of times whilst reading this
penpals page).

anyway thats enought moaning i best go see the doc.
Easier said than done tho isn't it..

Hi there people,

My name is Paul, and I'm a student living in Edinburgh.  I  have had Roseaca since I was 15, I guess but never went to the doctors just thought it was part of growin up.  Me mum buyin me allsorts of creams and concoctions.  I guess I'm not alone in that most G.P's I've had tend to look at you side ways when you talk about your skin (or maybe is just my paranoia! )  Anyways im 27 now, and in fairness I feel completely at the mercy of this thing.  My blushing has got worse to the point where my face is red nearly all of the time, and has got a little blotchy especially after a night out or a spicy meal. ( No way its gonna make me give up my social life! ) I have become self conscious nearly all of the time, I over-react and if someone gets a camera out well hey I just dive for cover!  The irony is that I've been told I'm a good lookin lad, but I cant see past the redness and everything else.  It would be good to talk to anyone who wants to chat, cause I know I find it almost impossible especially being a guy to talk with my friends ect.  I am in the process of setting up an appointment to have the ETS procedure done in the U.K., and am checking in to places offering Intense Pulse Light treatment to reduce the redness. I guess I have reached the point where it make or break, the ETS offers a lot of hope so I really don't begrudge spending my student loan : )

If anyone has had ETS done or is considering it I would love to hear from you, and also the IPL, I am more wary of that, like any typical roseace sufferer..... what if it makes it worse!......anyway please feel free to email me I would be happy to let you know how the plans work out.  Or like I said if anyone wants to chat then please drop a line :)

Hi, Im Craig from the UK.
I had acne from time to time in my teens and it seemed to get worse when
I
got older. But I kept telling myself that it would clear up and I
believed
that I once I past my teens that I would have clear skin. There was a
period
when my skin got better and my acne was infrequent. I started to get a
great
social life and made loads of friends. and it got to a point where I
would
have days with lots of acne and days with no acne at all. I could even
cope
with that, good days and bad days. But recently Im 21 and I seem to be
getting a lot more bad days than good days. In fact I cant remember the
last
time I had a good day. It really gets me down some days and I stay in
more
and feel I cant go out because of the way I look. Ive tried stuff from
the
chemmist, lots of stuff and seen the doctor several times as Ive grown
up.
But nothings worked and now I dont feel I have any control over my acne
or
the way I look. Ive tried washing more, washing less, using different
treatments, changin my diet, everything. Its really getting me down
because
Im a completely different person when i dont have acne. I'm happy,
confident, sociable, maybe even cute. But now Ive got no control and I
hate
the way I look. Im not great looking but Im not massively concerned
about
appearances, mine or other peoples.  I'd settle for looking plain,
normal,
boring. beauty is on the inside - blah blah blah. But its not my looks I
care about, its what acne's doing to them.

Hi

I am 25 and rosacea has ruined my skin. I have extreme swelling, burning, redness, flushing, blushing, bumps, pain, burning, dryness, acne, and lumps and bumps (also seb derm :()

I am thinking about buying accutane online- has anyone done this?

Has anyone had rosacea like mine and managed to control it? - I'd love to hear from everyone!

Thanks

Hi there
I've just read the many and various tips your readers have sent in to date.
What a wealth of information and advice. It really gives one hope about
controlling the problem and hopefully combating it (ideally but not realistically!)

I'm a fair-haired, red-faced woman in her thirties. I guess looking back the
classic signs of Rosacea have always been with me - the flushing, the spots
and the dandruff bouts. I'm Celtic looking and have a father with a bright red
face - hey no prizes there then!

So my battle plan to date has included the following:

1. Concealer make-up which is with me all the time. I now use Veil cover-up,
a special foundation to cover scars etc. It makes me feel normal ish! I don't
leave the house with out it, it's my best friend!

2. Facial spray with water to cool the face through the day.

3. Fake tan. It makes my neck and face look almost the same colour.I recommend
any good make and top up every week or so.

4. Aloe Vera soap, moisturiser and gel. All v good and soothing, and I also take an Aloe Vera
supplement with juice to help aid digestion.

5. Beta Blockers to help reduce my self-conciousness - not always possible
eh? But they seem to reduce my anxiety a bit.

6. Multi vits and a digestive enzyme booster, as the problem has been linked to
bad digestion.

7. A low fat and high fibre/veg/protein diet with as little addititives/sugar/cafeine/alcohol
as possible. I find dairy and booze the worst culprits. Oh yeh I also avoid
spices like the plague as they casue instant flushing..

8. If I'm going out for any length of time outside, I use the best sun block I have ever found.
This is a God-send I swear - P40 - the total block that the army developed. You get no
burning or reaction from the sun. It's absolutely fab.....a total block all day
long even in bright sunshine. I even came back from a summer holiday with a glorious
honey tan last year. WOW.

9. Nizoral shampoo. Again a brilliant anti-dandruff shampoo that stops the horrid itching
and burning feeling. I actually use small amounts every day on my face and scalp.
It is also good to wash any clothing and pillows that touch your face with this.

10. Stuff I've still to try. I'm about to tackle the broken veins with laser treatment
( have been building up my courage for this one)
and also to try and have the nerve-cutting op if I can get it on the NHS. Fingers crossed.

I also think hypnotherapy would be brilliant to counteract the years of bad thinking
and embarrasment - ie learn new patterns of thought.

I have tried some counselling and do think this is invaluable as we Rosaceans
seem to suffer alone and in silence. It's all been very depressing and stressful-
I'm sure everyone will agree.Talking it through with a trained counsellor has helped
me try and get some persepective so far.

Anyone got any feedback on any of this at all? I would love to hear from fellow-survivors!

My only other real contribution here is that I have always thrown myself into
sports in which red-faces are all around me. Hence, aerobics, cycling, skiing
and sailing are fabulous as no one notices you look different. Anyone else have
any thoughts on the matter?

I'd love to hear from women in the London area.

Bye for now

I am 28 years old, after using topical steriod for two years ( My dermatologist gave me a cream to put on my face to get rid of my several freckles in my cheek without telling me it contains steriod which can not use more than two weeks). I stopped my topical cream in order to prepare to get pregrant three months ago, and now I developed steriod rosacea.

I am in antibiotics pills for almost three months, I did not see the improvement. When the time I started to take the pill,  I was told it was to prevent the rosacea, after three months, my symptom get worse. Somehow I believe my dermatologist is not knowlegable enough, at one point, she asked me to use differin and retina-a at same time, which based on my research , it was never be recommended.  I tried to put metracream last week on my face in the hope of get out of pills, I found it cause my face red, and flushing. I eventually guessed that I should not put antibacteria cream on the skin which do not have pimples. My dermatologist asked me to put all over my face.

Eventually I decided to switch a doctor. I went to a library to get a list of 'top recommended doctors in USA', and made an appointment with one of them two weeks from now.

What I want from pen pal?  Sharing knowlege is good such . Emotional support is good too, actually I'd be happier if talking about how to deal with emotion problems. Just complaining never solve the problem, for me, I found three minutes therapy works pretty well.  So I 'd like having one who have skin problems but still hold positive life attitude as my pen pal.  Furthermore, I always like having a pen pal from other areas outside silicon valley so that we can talk about life style, culture difference etc. Certainly I have more interests than just solving my skin problem such as reading novels, biology(my major),computer(my career), physics, and food.

I am considering have a surgery to remove the red line in my face, I heard a surgery called intensive pulse light that according to what I read it can get rid of the symptom of Rosacea quite successfully. I wondered did anyone have that?

Ok, if that sounds interests, drop me an email at zeng_janez@hotmail.com

Hi my name is Sean.I live in Belfast in N.Ireland. I am 15 and have suffered from acne for about a year. It has really lowered my self esteem. i have absoloutly no social life now and dread going to school. I spend hours in front of the mirror. At one point I felt so low, I contemplated suiced. I look at other people in my school with clear faces, and sad as it may seem, I feel jealousy toward them. I think what have I done to deserve this?

Anyone the same?

Hello folks, I'm Maggie, 31 and from Derbyshire, I've just discovered this
site and it's really good to read about other people's experiences and not
feel so alone.

You're right to be confused, I am! I've had acne/ rosacea/ infected acne
(impetigo - has anyone else had this? My doctor says it's becoming more
common - I wonder why?!) on and off for years now and when it flares up
badly, which it has recently, I really don't know what to do...

Antibiotics - I keep thinking long term about this; am I really helping
myself by taking them, especially as many of them are not that effective for
me anyway: Minocin, erythromycin, flucloxacillin and the like. I've not got
onto Roaccutane as yet and don't really want to go there.

Chinese herbs have helped in the past - loads. This time, not so well.

Homoepathy - tried once, didn't work. Thinking about trying again.

Total chill out lifestyle seems to help, tho' I'm a naturally lively/ party
sort of person. I no longer drink tea/ coffee/ de-caf and am thinking about
cutting down alcohol, tho' cutting out totally would be hard!! Stress and
these drinks/ not eating properly seem to be my trigger. I'm hoping that if
I do chillout max soon ie nothing but vegetable patches and deep breathing,
things might improve.

It's difficult because all of the time through this I still have to go out
and earn my daily bread in a community development job - which requires
cheerful contact with loads of people and kids. I want to clear this in time
to hold onto some self esteem as Acne has already affected mine severely.

By the way, is anyone else tired of people who don't have acne giving them
advice about their acne/ lifestyle/ just about everything. This is an
infection just like any other, and just because it happens to be on my face
it doesn't give anyone the right to tell me that I'm not getting my greens
(or whatever else the pop-experts have to say).

Oh I could growl all day, but that wouldn't be good. It's hard not to focus
on acne/ rosacea as the be all and end all. It feels (almost) like it is for
me at the moment but I'm hoping, praying and positively affirming that life
is good.....

I'd like to hear from anyone with impetignized acne or from anyone who's had
any success with homoeopathy, or anyone who wants to start a revolution
against anti-biotic wielders of evil....(sense of humour optional)

Love and Big +'s

Maggie

Hi.

My name is Sandy.  I'm 32 years old and I, too, suffer from that incredibly frustrating skin condition, rosacea.  I definitely know how all of you feel.  It is quite frustrating to have people constantly asking me why my face is so red.  It's embarrassing, especially when I'm grocery shopping, and people stare at you when you go by.  I know it's because of the redness.  My entire face is red....not BRIGHT red or anything, just really flushed.  I look like I have a sunburn...all the time.  My doctor gave me a list of things to avoid so my rosacea MIGHT get better...but I really don't think giving up chocolate is realistic...at least not in my case!!!  I used to use this cream for my rosacea, but it really didn't produce any results, so I stopped using it.  Just today, I made another appointment to see my dermatologist again...I sure hope someone comes up with a cure for this "red mask"...I'm getting kind of sick of looking at myself in the mirror!!!  Anyway, I think this sight is wonderful.  Any of you can write to me whenever...I'm on the Internet every night after 4:30 PM.  It's a relief to know that I'm not the only one who suffers from this embarrassing disease!

Looking forward to meeting some new friends online.

Hello

I was only diagnosed with rosacea a few weeks ago, after a pretty bad
flareup. I've had the symptoms since the age of about 17 though.

I also have eczema - a childhood thing I never grew out of - and I've
been going to see a chinese herbalist for a few months for this.
Unfortunately the treatment is expensive and they don't do special
offers if you go with 2 skin conditions! The eczema is much better but
at least when it flares up you can cover it up. With rosacea it is much
more difficult. In my circle of friends, I don't know anyone who has
battled with eczema or has rosacea and this makes it harder for them to
appreciate what it is like and for me not to feel self conscious.

I've been reading a lot about triggers (spicy food, alcohol etc) and
although I didn't drink much anyway, I've cut out spicy foods, alcohol,
caffeine and chocolate. I'm vegetarian and have been for 6 years - would
reverting to eating meat help? (that would be a struggle for me). I also
try to avoid being in places with people smoking around me as I feel
this makes my skin feel worse. I've also read that the condition is
hereditary - but no one else in my family has had it, as far as I know.

I'm nearly 26 and  live just outside Glasgow. I'd like to hear from
people who are interested in swapping suggestions about how to live with
and treat rosacea - or even if you would just like a moan from time to
time!
Thanks
Susan

Hello!

I am very new to this website, but from what I have seen so far it is great,
and I am SO relieved to learn that it's not just me with the "Why me?"
feeling.

I am 26 years old and live in London with my husband.  For the best part of
probably 15 years I have had a red nose.  Some days it's 'normal' and others
it can be as red as a beetroot.   I have quite a fair complexion too so when
my nose is red it shows up a lot.

I went to my doctor about 5 years ago and it was then I discovered I had 'an
adult form of acne' called rosacea.  I was glad then to find out what was
'wrong' with my nose but he didn't prescribe anything for me to take.
Recently I read an article in a magazine about a book you can buy which is a
self help guide, and that got me looking on the web instead!

I don't get the actual acne so much now (I used to get quite a bit when I
was at school), just the red nose, but believe me I've been there at times
when you don't want to go out because of it.  I'd also been wondering why I
go red in the face so much when having conversations to people about things
- I could never understand it because I never felt embarrassed yet a lot of
people always told me I'd gone bright red.  Reading this website though I
realise it's another part of rosacea which I didn't know about, and again I
feel a bit better about it knowing I'm not alone!

Anyway, I would be glad to hear from anyone out there who wants to have a
moan about anything, and I mean anything, not just our problems.  Male or
female of any age, I don't mind.  I am taking no pills or natural remedies
or anything as yet to clear it up, but am strongly thinking about it, and
would love to hear from people who have tried any form of remedy and what
they thought of the results.  Look forward to hearing from you soon.

My address is kathhoward75@hotmail.com (and yes I give you permission
Webmaster to print this address!!).

Love,
Kath.xx

Hello everyone! I'm a fellow rosacea person and I'd love to get to know others. I'm a nurse in Manitoba, Canada -- avoiding cold weather and wind sure isn't possible here! I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and I've subsequently moved. My new doctor really isn't up on rosacea too well calling it "acne" and saying that rosacea is only the blushing and redness....but we know differently! I've been on minocin and clindamyacin 1% for the past 3 years, and I'm not getting good results from them anymore. Does anyone have experience with the h-pylori treatment? Know anything about the shingles connection? And what about this rosacea diet? I'd love to exchange with you. Ever wondered about Canada's cold north? Do we really eat moose meat and live in igloos? Write me -

My name is Jennifer, I just turned 32 this month, and I live in the Midwest part of the United States.

I have battled with adult acne for a few years now, It is a mild case, but I can not stand it.

Growing up I has flawless skin and I was a model for many years, and I took my good skin for granted.
Now I just want to have good skin again and not have to worry about it anymore.

Every sunscreen I use breaks me out, and every moisture cream I use breaks me out. Does anyone have any suggestions, and where would I find these products.

I also noticed that creams cause more irritation than gel type products? Has anyone else noticed this?

I would also like suggestions of cosmetic that are good for acne or acne rosacea skin types.

Please write me back with any suggestion or comments.

Thanks
Jennifer

I've been searching the internet the past few days trying to figure out
why i've always had a problem with my blushing and red cheeks. I also have
little tiny bumps all over my cheeks and have some little white pustulets on
my nose and my cheeks. I just read on this site that you can go bald easy,
because your scalp is dry. I was just scratching my scalp and i did notice
some flaking. It's very frustration and it affects my self-esteem greatly. I
am only 19 years old, I'm about to start college this Monday. I remember in
junior high and High school kids and teachers would always ask me why my
face was red. I could never tell them why, because i had no clue. My only
"reply" was to blush. I don't know about others, but I am really depressed
about this. It sounds like there is nothing that really works and the stuff
that may work can cause other problems such as baldness. I went to a family
doctor once in Junior high when the flushing started and he just said it was
acne. The flushing and redness has progressed and worsened through the
years. Finally, last year I went to the Dermatologist and he just prescibe
Differin and Doxicyline which didn't help the redness and flushing at all. I
noticed I had most of the symptoms that were listed on your web page for
Rosacea. My cheeks flush sometimes for little or no reason. The
sun/heat/cold/hot rooms/intense workouts/embarassment/ and even just hot
stuffy rooms all worsen the conditon I have. I hear that there's some kinda
surgery that may work, but it may have side effects like aging skin. I do
have an appt. with a new dermatologist this week, but I really don't have
much confidence in them right now. I'm not sure yet whether i have Rosacea
"for sure" yet, but i can sure sympathize with people who do. It really
inhibits us in alot of daily things. In school I could never speak out,
because i was always afraid of flushing. Then sometimes when a teacher would
just ask me something or stare at me during class i would start to flush. I
played baseball in High School and we had to run alot. After and during the
workout especially after running my face would be really red and seem to
kinda throb. I think my symptoms started when i was in the 6th grade. I
would just feel embarassed over nothing and I tried to compensate by
splashing water on my face or chew on ice. This disease or whatever it is
doesn't sound like much to most people, but to people who suffer/suffered
from it know how badly it can disrupt your life. Is one of the symptons
depression. I'm sorry, I didn't realize how much i was rambling on and on.
It's just I haven't really told anyone how much pain this has caused me
throughout the years. Thanks for listening,

Darren

Hi, I would like to be on the penpals list please.

My name is Lucy, I am 21 years old, recently graduated
from Uni and live in the West Midlands.

I have suffered from fairly severe acne since I was
about 12. I have tried EVERYTHING to cure it but
nothing seems to have really worked - although my skin
is significantly better these days ! Spots tend to
appear around my mouth/chin now - which I am told is
common in young women. I was recently given Roaccutane
for the 3rd time (agh!) and whereas it has worked
before, this time my skin has become much worse and I
have now stopped taking the pills and have seen some
improvement. Quite weird ! My skin does get me down
sometimes and holds me back from things I want to do
but I know it is important not to let it ruin my life.

I am quite quiet but not when you get to know me (!) I
have a good sense of humour and enjoy socialising,
pubs & clubs. So anyone who fancies a chat just let me
know ! Lx

Hi, I'm a woman and a fellow sufferer and have been for 9 years.  When I turned 40 I developed a rash in my hair and on my forehead.  My doctor sent me to a skin specialist and when I walked into his surgery he said to me 'Oh you've just turned 40 and someone in your family has bad acne or dandruff' All true.  Apparently it's some sort of gene marker passed down - my grandfather had very bad dandruff which sent him bald at a very early age, you can imagine how pleased I was to hear all of this with this thing in my scalp.  The disease has progressed down my face and neck, into my ears and occasionally chest.  My routine is aqueous cremes to wash my face in and just sorbelene as a moisturiser.  I have had acne all my life so this rosaecea is the last straw.  I have been told it will disappear after menopause?  Is this true
