Hi jed thank you for your kind comments and let me have a longer term progress report eh?

Best wishes and take care.

Dear Webmaster,

When reading your site for the first time about 7/8 months ago I was probably suffering from the worst break out of acne vulgaris in my life. I was severly depressed, taking anxiety attacks and avioding socialising I didn't have a very sympathetic doctor and I don't feel I was given the chance to explore the options there is for acne vulgaris. After reading your site it gave me a little boost and I changed my doctor, yipee!

I tried two topical treatments and found that they caused side effects ( dryness, burnig, etc.) He put me on Erythrocin and I use Neutrogena's multi-vitamin moisture lotion for spot prone skin. So far my skin has clear completely and my confidence has returned a little. This site is a long needed resource for people like me, thanks.

Jeni, Scotland.

Dear Jeni

I am absolutely delighted to receive your email. That is excellent news and I really appreciate you keeping in touch - letters like yours keep me going! You have shown that determination and courage are essential components in our fight against acne vulgaris - well done and please stay in touch.

Hello dear kcn,

I am so happy to find your web site, and at the same time I was very scared. It is, because I released that rosacea is chronicle. I am with kidney transplant and it makes my situation quite difficult.Every day I must take 1tablet Urbason and Ciclosporin.I am under stress almost every day, because I am worried about my kidney. But after all I am an actress and I wish to work again.

I am from Bulgaria, but now I live in Saudi Arabia ,and here I couldn't find Metronidazole cream. Here are available only tablets, but I can't take them.

Now I don't know what to do. I am not sure that I can find Metronidazole in Bulgaria.

Please help me if you can.

Dana

Dear Dana

My wife has Nephrotic Syndrome (disease of the kidneys) so I understand how you feel. We had someone else writing from Saudi and he was able to get Metrocream from his company's pharmacy after pushing them (initially they said they hadn't heard of it). You could also try Sulfacet lotion www.dermik.com - an alternative approach is Aloe Vera herbal products, I would be pleased to provide you with some - you can find details on our home page - I now use it instead of Metronidazole I find it as good. I hope I have been of some help, let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

best wishes and take care

kcn.I have found your site very helpful. Please add me to your mailing list.

My daughter is now 16 and has been taking antibiotics for acne vulgaris for a few
years (several different ones due to bacterial resistance. She has seen a
specialist at the hospital who prescribed Doxycycline (50 mg/day),
Dianette
and a lotion for her face. This has helped by clearing up her back and
chest but her face is still bad after two months. Do you think I should
ask
the doctor to increase the Doxycycline to 100 mg/day?

By the way, she refuses to have the systemic retinoid treatment (I think
it's called Roaquitane) because of the blood tests involved.

I would be very grateful for your advice and thanks in advance.

Hi
I am 21 yaers old with pretty good skin but have
some constant redness and get flushing in the heat or
cold.
How can I prevent this getting worse for now. Would a
good moisturiser do? Most seem to contain alcohol etc.
which seems to make my face worse, is there any you
would recommend?
Thanks very much.

Funny you should ask - but I have been testing the Herb Aloe vera (you need
a pure product with no irritants as you say) and a moisturiser is now
advertised on our home page at a very reasonable cost (even though I say so
myself). If your flushing becomes a problem to you (even though you are
trying to avoid trigger factors, heat and cold etc) ask your Doctor about
medications for flushing.. I would also recommend the aloe vera gel for it's antiinflammatory properties. I hope this is of some help - let me know how you get on.
best wishes and take care

Dear kcn
i am 15 years old and I have been suffering with acne vulgaris
for over 3 years now. i have tried almost every
medication on the market. Everything from perscribed
and off the shelf medicine. But all i have seen is
worse results. It is at the point now to where every
time I look in the mirror I always look at how ugly my
face is. And i can't stand it anymore. All I want to
do is get rid of my acne vulgaris. it would be a big help if
you could mail me some good tips I could try to help
my acne vulgaris prone skin.
thanks

hi There,

Thought I would drop you a line as I have just discovered your web-site. I have had rosacea for the last three years since I went through a very stressful period at work.I do not get spots with it just go very red in the face. I am now trying Aloa-Vera gel (organic) as I read, before seeing it on your site, that it was good for the complaint.I only use it at night before going to bed.I shall let your readers know what happens after the following four week trial. I have also cut down on my tea consumption and have gone onto herbal teas.Glad I have found your site...Martyn.

Dear Martyn thank you for writing, we shall look forward to the results - Good I hope!!! If blushing is your main problem and it gets bad ask your Doctor about any possible medications.

Hi:

Please be so kind to help me: I have two different versions about triggers
of
rosacea. I have the information that yoghurt, cheese and exercise are
rosacea
triggers and on the other hand I read that those help to avoid the
disease.

Please also help tp know which daily habits do I have to follow in order
to
try to avoid as much as possible that the rosacea worsens during the
menopause: I am 35 years old at this moment.

Thank you so much

Hi yoghurt and cheese, dairy products are generally neutral - in general!
There was a very interesting program on the BBC last night talking about
inherited genetics - Researchers have found that 50% of African and Asian
descendants cannot tolerate milk due to a lack of the enzyme to digest it.
A large proportion of whites can tolerate and thrive on milk as they do
produce the enzyme in the stomach that digests milk BUT and it is a
phenomenal BUT it all depends on your ancestry and the gene pool that your
are formed from - this is not just to do with milk but other genetic
characteristics such as a predisposition to Diabetes, toleration of heat,
cold, fitness, stamina - acne vulgaris? - rosacea? The programs scientific study
shows "what is one mans cure can be another's poison". It shows why some
respond to different treatments and others don't, why some characteristics
are good and help us thrive in one environment and not so good in another, (example Celtic
background, migrated to a hot country, exasperate rosacea? (maybe the same
blood rushing to your face to stop your nose freezing in winter in Scotland
is not a benefit in Australia)). Anyway I've gone on so long I've forgotten
your question!........oh yes exercise can be good if you avoid getting too
hot and sweaty - each individual has to learn about the possibilities and
then experiment to see what's best for them.
best wishes and take care.

Hi,
I am 19 years old and I have always felt lucky to have a perfect
complextion...until recently that is. I all of a sudden have redness
and blemishes on my nose, chin, and cheeks that don't go away. My dad
tells me I'm too young to get it. I think he's wrong. My dad and aunt
have rosecea so I'm afraid I may have it too. I tried to get a
dermotologist appointment but it seems no one will accept new patients.
Do you have any suggestions of what I can do while I'm trying to find a
doctor.
Also, my mom suggested I try Evening Primrose Oil....do you think herbal
supplements and minerals help?
Thanks,
Andrea

Hi Andrea unfortunately you are not too young for rosacea. If you want to
try herbs try Aloe Vera it seems to be the one that most people have success
with. Ask you family doctor to prescribe Metronidazole cream or Sufacet-R
lotion and or tetracycline tablets, good luck and let me know how you get
on.
best wishes and take care
kcn.

Hi William,
Great web site!!! I was diagnosed with rosacea about a year ago. Since
then, I've tried metro cream, sufacet,
Doxycycline pills and haven't had much success. I'm aware of common
triggers
and have avoided them, but I still have constant redness, breakouts,
flare-ups. Anything else I can try?
Have you heard of any success stories with Aloe99 gel?
Let me know. Thanks, Randy

Hi Randy thank you very much for your kind comments, I tried Aloe Vera a while
ago with no success but I think it was some product with added perfume etc.
I have been trying Aloe Vera99 gel recently and found it to be as good as
Metronidazole for me - so I have just started advertising it yesterday - it
is certainly worth trying! If you want to order it from me your entitled to
a 10% discount (quote discount 1517) as you are now on our mailing list!
Let me know how you get on.

Great site and a relief to find,

I am a felow rosacea sufferer it seems to come and go, But at the moment is fairly permanant. What Treatments do you recomend? I've tried antibiotics (I was told it was related to a kidney infection) Acupunture, Chinese herbs, Homeopathy , and cannot afford to keep spending on treatments that have little or no effect.

Please help

Alan

Hi Alan thank you for your kind comments. Unfortunately it is a case of trying different treatments until the best one for you is found. As you mention the first treatments from your Doctor may be tetracycline and or metronidazole topical cream, some readers have found Sulfacet r lotion quite beneficial but my Doc can't get hold of it. I am having great success with Aloe Vera gel at present I have had persistant spots and redness which has cleared with the use of Aloe but recures when I stop - I find it as good as Metronidazole at clearing spots and better at clearing redness. It is essential whatever treatment to avoid the trigger factors and if blushing is a problem ask your Doctor about any medications..!

Let me know how you get on with your treatments.

best wishes and take care

Dear Webmaster,

I thought you would never respond to such a weird e-mail. But you did so
thank you.

I am trying to take care of myself. but it feels like everytime I think
YES
my face is clearing up and I don't have to worry about sitting in front of
the mirror for 30 minutes trying to be an artist on my face but then I get
another pimple.

They never go away. I got whiteheads and have blackheads. I am even
starting
to break out on my neck. I am so ashamed sometimes. I feel like people
look
at me like I don't wash my face or something. I have always wished for
beautiful soft clear skin. Sometimes it takes a while for your prayers to
get answered, I guess.

But once again thank you for even taking time to read what I have wrote. I
am just getting used to this people caring thing. Please dont ask or even
think about it????

Thanx,
Renee.......

Hi Renee
If you think your email was weird have you read my replies! hehe.

We all care because we understand how You feel as we are in or have been in
the same situation. Are we selfless? I don't know - it gives me great
pleasure if I can help someone - it takes me out of my humdrum day to day
life and makes me feel good and raises my self-esteem. It is a great
comfort to others to read the emails and know they are not alone with their
feelings and like me, the common spirit we all share can make coping a
little easier - perhaps we're not so self-less after all.

Go back to your Doctor and explain how acne vulgaris is upsetting you, explain how it
affects your life and insist on further treatments (as discussed on the
site) let me know how you get on. I'm not sure how Aloe Vera gel will work
for acne vulgaris but that is certainly worth a go as I am having great success with
the pimples associated with rosacea.
best wishes and stay in touch.
kcn.

Im 21 yrs old and have been having problems with my face for 3 years now.
It all started immediately after I arrived home from Basic Training for the
National Guard. Im fair skinned and I think the extreme heat from Oklahoma
during summer damaged my skin. The past 3 years Ive been taking
Tetrocycline, and used numerous acne vulgaris products. I have moderate acne vulgaris now,
its
not too bad, but Im thinking I may also have rosacea. Its weird during the
winter months Nov-Feb, my face gets red very easily. Examples would be:
temperature too high in someones house, hard exercise, and when Im
drinking
alcohol. I only get red on my cheeks, and ears. Not my nose or chin. My
dermatologist doesnt think I have rosacea, but went ahead and prescribed
me
Metro gel a few weeks ago. So, basically my question is do u think I have
rosacea, and also does Metro gel help at all with acne vulgaris, cause I still
wanna
cure that as well. I would really appreciate it if you would answer me.
Thanks a lot!

ps. I know everyone already tells you this, but your site does kick ass!

Hey how ya doing thanks for the praise you know I can't get enough of it!!!
hehe. rosacea is a possibility - tetracycline may help the symptoms of
rosacea and acne vulgaris as may Metronidazole. If the flushing you are
experiencing in hot houses, certain foods etc becomes a problem you can ask
your Doctor about medications perhaps..
I would certainly also try Aloe Vera gel. Let me know how you get on.
best wishes and take care
kcn.

Thank you for the information I am receiving. My Dr. indicated that it
was
an old age thing. I am 81 years young and not ready for that answer. I
have
this condition on one cheek and have had it for two or more years. My
eyes
water constantly and nothing seems to help this. I wonder if this could
be
from the rosacea?
I heard about your website on the radio. I went to my computer
immediately. I need to get a Dr. that will treat this. Any suggestions?
I
live in Coachella Valley in Southern California.

Roberta

Hi Roberta - was my site mentioned on the radio? what station - what did
they say - as you can tell I'm all excited now I'll have to ring my Mum!
hehe.

Your quite right of course to seek treatment and age is not an issue! My
first course of action would be to use Aloe Vera gel topically avoiding the
complications of long term use of antibiotics. Have you tried over the
counter eye drops? if they are no good - Loteprednol steroidal eye drops
are usually prescribed by Doctors for eye problems associated with rosacea.
Let me know how you get on.

GREETINGS...
HERE'S MY PROBLEM. I HAVE THIS DEEP LOOKING RASH JUST BELOW MY LOWER LIP FROM ONE CORNER OF MY MOUTH TO THE OTHER. NOWHERE ELSE. I'VE HAD FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE THE PAST THREE YEARS. I DON'T HAVE INSURANCE TO SEE A DOCTOR RIGHT NOW, SO I WAS WONDERING IF YOU KNOW OF ANY TYPICAL REMEDIES FOR COLORATION OF THE SKIN. IT DOESN'T FLAKE AND IF IT'S THE RESULT OF A SUNBURN WOULD IT EVEN BE TREATABLE. I KNOW THERE'S NOT MUCH TO GO ON SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHAT I HAVE BUT ANY INFO WOULD HELP. THANK YOU.
CAL~ OLYMPIA,WA

Hi Cal thanks for writing - if it was me I would think it is probably a form of Dermatitis and would try an ointment called Daktarin (miconazole nitrate) available without prescription, I would also recommend Aloe Vera gel and if you try it please let me know the results for your dermatitis.

let me know how you get on anyway.

best wishes and take care

kcn.

Hi,

My brother of mine has been diagnosed with acne vulgaris Congoloblata and I am
trying to get more information on this. I would be glad if you can send
any information that can be helpful. If not can you please recommend
either web sites or research organizations from where I can get more
information.

Thanks and regards,

Harish

Hey kcn. I have successfully completed my three month supply of
antibiotics and continue to use the creams night and day. Although my skin is mostly
clear of breakouts I am still very flushed. Mostly red around the checks
and chin. Is there anything topical you can apply to cut down on the
redness. People are beginning to think I live in the tanning beds. I
haven't spent any money on blush cosmetics in the last three years. (I
guess that's a positive) Let me know. Thanks. Joanna

Hi Joanna a couple of weeks ago I would have said Metronidazole or Sulfacet
the standard treatments but many find lacking in results - but now I am
delighted to say the Aloe Vera gel I sell from the site has had extremely
positive results for me and is certainly worth a try. If you do decide to
give it a try and buy it from us you will help to ensure the continuation of
the site too!
best wishes and take care for now.
kcn.

Thank you for the info. I am considering the surger for flushing. Did
you say you are going to have this surgery? Are you going to have the doctor
do it that is listed on the website? Do you know anyone personally that has
had this done and was it successful with the flushing/blushing.

Linda

Hi I've got my first consultation about the surgery for flushing in March 01
and will keep everyone updated - one of our readers has sent in a website
address with cautionary tales about the surgery - I haven't had time to look
yet. I have no other info on the operation unfortunately - I'm beginning to
feel like a test case!
take care
kcn.

have you ever heard of rosacea funamali? the doctors say thats what i
have.
i've been on accutane, etc. and i can't seem to shake it. any help you
can
give me would be very much appreciated.

Lonette

Hi Lonette I regret to say I can't be of any further help other than what’s
on the site - we shall see if our readers can throw any light on it. I will
be pleased to hear whatever info you find out.
take care and best wishes.
kcn.

There was a letter in the Sunday Times last week mentioning Aloe Vera as
useful for helping with rosacea. I then did a search on the web and found
quite a few references to Aloe Vera helping a number of skin conditions.

Has anyone tried this or have you heard of this??

Sam

that is absolutely uncanny- I've been testing it and I am just now putting
an advert on the site for it!
best wishes
kcn.

As a follow up to the ETS info that has been discussed
on your web site, you may be interested to reference
some of the people who are not so happy with the
results.

The web site below is about Hyperhydrosis, but there
is a big debate all about ETS.

http://www.ctsnet.org/forum/35

Also, for your info, I'm going to a place in London
soon where they perform 6,000 allergy tests on you
within the space of an hour with some sort of machine
that uses electrophysiological reactions, or whatever.

I'll get back to you with the results on that one.

Regards

Paul

Dear Paul
I'll certainly have a look - my appointment for a consultation about ets
came through in the post today for march next year - so I'm very
interested - thanks for letting me know and I look forward to your info on
the allergy testing.

Hi how r you? i have to admit your site is the best ive seen about these
various probs, such as acne vulgaris and rosacea, let me tell u about my prob and
maybe i can get some feedback, cause i sure can use some.
I've had this strange skin problem for almost 7 years now, and i had been
very depressed, its like this: it seems my skin on my face is pretty thin
and tender it doesnt show too much redness, its as if all i have for
protection is the tender underskin under the strong layer of skin people
usually have, i blush easily in tense situations and i hate the feeling it
reminds me i still have this, now the strange part is that the skin feels
like this from the torso up, a burning feeling like a sunburn, and as i
said it is very sensitive to heat and cold(when it is hot or in a hot
environment i feel the heat double and usually follows with blushing, when
it is cold out, i feel double the effect and i freeze quick)the blushing
are
my main concern since physically it doesnt show like the typical rosacea
ailement, ive been told it isnt this, but not knowing whats the prob is
frustrating, do beta blockers really work? if anyone can help please feel
free,
thanx, Jason

_ Hi Jason thank you for writing. rosacea can be in varying degrees from mild
symptoms to severe and does not neccasarily have to get worse over time.
Mine is no worse today than it was 25 years ago. Blushing is a very
distressing and socially debilitating problem - man don't I know it!!! it
may or may not be a symptom of rosacea. Go to your Doctor and ask him about
treatments. Let me know how you get on.

kcn.

Hi,
I just located this site and wanted to share my story and ask some
questions. I am 35 years old. I have had rosacea for probably 13 years,
but was just diagnosed about 3 years ago. My face always flushed, but what
prompted me to seek medical attention was my cheeks started feeling like I
had tiny papercuts. I would look in the mirror and nothing would be on my
face. I went to my family practice doctor and he started me on Metrogel.
This didn't really seem to help, so I went to a dermatologist. He started
me on Monodox (a tetracycline antibiotic kcn.) and Noritate. I used the Monodox for about 3 months, until the
rosacea calmed down, but continue to use the Noritate daily.
One of my most prevalant symptoms, besides the red face, is dry eyes. I
cannot wear contacts. I cannot be around any fumes, such as paint. I
cannot even wear mascara, as it seems to suck the moisture out of my eyes.
Sometimes my eyes will ache like toothaches. I have been told by my
dermatologist that dry eyes is a symptom of rosacea. My opthalmologist
also treats patients with rosacea, stating some people need to have the tear
ducts blocked in order to keep the eye from being too dry. I haven't
resulted to this yet. Also, some people need surgery on their eyelids, but
I do not know the reason for this.
I had to have a routine eye exam about 2 weeks ago. I had 2 different
drops put in my eyes, one to numb for the glaucoma test and another to dilate
the pupil. I have had this done at least 7 or 8 times in my life, so didn't
think anything of it. About 4 hours after having the drops put in my eyes
I noticed a severe flare of my rosacea. My cheeks were redder than I have
ever seen them and my face was on fire! My face felt like I had second degree
burns. I had to put a cold cloth on my face about every 10 minutes for 4
hours! The next day I noticed my face was swollen, just under my eyes at
the tops of my cheekbones. The swelling lasted about 5 days. I called the
opthalmologist's office, but was informed the drops couldn't have caused
this. I also called my allergist's office, who agreed with the opthalmologist. I called my dermatologist and requested the soonest appt,
which is yet to come. I also requested Monodox, as this helped calm the
rosacea before. I have been on the Monodox for 6 days and notice a
difference already. My face is not as red and doesn't hurt as much. My
eyes
are still very dry. I will ask my dermatologist what he thinks, but I KNOW
the rosacea flare was a result of the drops used in my eyes. I believe it
was the drop used to dilate my pupils, as it is a vasoconstrictor. The
medication must have gotten into my system. Once the medication wore off,
it
allowed my vessels to dilate, especially those in my very sensitive face.
I
will let you know what the dermatologist says, but wondered if anyone else
out there has ever experienced this before.
What about the dry eyes? I have read some things in the e-mails where
people
refer to occular rosacea. Is this what they are talking about?
Thanks for allowing me to share and feel free to print my e-mail. E-mail
me
back with your thoughts and any information you can share.
Thanks,
Dane.
